1. Your current relationship, if single discuss how single life is. I hate the term, but it’s complicated.  We’re dating, but there’s no title on it because we live 800 miles away from each other and only get to see each other once every few months.  And when we DO see each other, with the exception of when we first started dating it’s when one or both of us is on vacation, so there’s no real way to tell if we can make a relationship work in a real world setting.  Maybe if I move out there for grad school and work like I planned before I even met him, things will change for the better.  As it is, I see him next month and I am so incredibly excited.

9. How you hope your future will be like. Honestly, I just want to be happy. However events go to make that happen, I don’t really care.

15. Your favorite tumblrs. I have a lot, and for different reasons. I love tolkienianos because TOLKIEN and theashleyclements for her random awesomeness and senorwhopperpants because where else would I get my Psych fix??? But those are just three of many that I love!

30. Your highs and lows of this month. Oh jeeze. Well we’re going to call “this month” the last 30 days and I’m gonna say that the high of this month was the Easter Egg Hunt a couple of friends and I planned that took place in the theater where we work.  It was a ton of fun. The low…well if you’ve read my personal posts you’ll know I’ve been in a bit of a rut and I’ve just been feeling really down on myself all week.  So…kind of right now is my low.

Day 3: Are there any of the film's adaptations that have made you angry because they've ignored important parts of the book?

Yes.

Glorfindel.

Glorfindel is amazing. He is truly amazing. He was so amazing, in fact, that when he died slaying a Balrog at the Fall of Gondolin, Mandos said "Whoa, you are way too amazing for my halls! Go use your amazingness back in Arda!"

And re-imbodied him.

In the book, he is the one to find Aragorn and the hobbits on their way to Rivendell, and he has been denied this TWICE, replaced once by Legolas in the Bakshi animation and by Arwen in the Peter Jackson adaptation.

In a similar vein, I am not very happy with the whole Flight to the Ford sequence in the film because it took away all of Frodo's agency and power. In the book, he flees on Asfaloth alone while Glorfindel stays behind to fight the Nazgul with Aragorn, and he defies them alone, with his own words. It is a very strong scene and a very important moment for his character, as it shows his personal strength and resilience against the evil of Sauron. The film adaptation of this scene took all that strength away from him. (The following moment where Arwen sobs is the only scene in the entire series that I will fast forward through. In the theatres, it was during this scene that my friend and I would head to the lobby for slushie refills).

2. Your favorite movie? And book?

I absolutely adore Rohan and everything about it, so I have to say my favorite film is The Two Towers, because so much of it is centered in Rohan. Even though TTT also has one of the most irritating text-to-film changes ("Filmamir!"), I love that country and the desperation of Helm's Deep just guts me every time I watch it. I also love Sam's speech at the end and the last march of the Ents.

As for my favorite book....haha, trick question! There is only one book, and it is called The Lord of the Rings! Tolkien never wanted it sectioned off, but it was too big to print. So, my favorite section is Book Three, which is the Aragorn-Legolas-Gimli journey of The Two Towers.(See, non-book fans don't know that it's actually six books...and also, on a somewhat unrelated note, as much as I would like to own this BEAUTIFUL printing of the book, I'm rather attached to the copy my dad bought me for Christmas many years ago. I also like that it's red...Red Book of Westmarch...it just should be red, you know?)
