To Captain Tolyrn-
As no one in my family had been able to get access to Chessi Eder’s personal affects, it has taken this long for us to carry out her last wishes. My brother Berthold is still unable to communicate, or I believe he would be the one writing to you.
My mother and I discovered that Chessi had written a will with numerous addendum, and we’re taking it upon ourselves to honor her wishes. This set of mittens was in her bag, labeled with your name, and in her will, she asked that you be given the whistle she made from a rifle shell.
She would have been my sister, so I hope you don’t find this presumptuous. From what little Josef has said, Chessi considered you very much like family and had expressed a wish that you be willing to walk her down the aisle at her wedding to my brother, Berthold. I regret that such a thing was not to be, but if you ever need aid, please come to our family.
