#OTD 10/9/1972 First Lady Pat Nixon helped kick off the Nixon-Agnew reelection campaign. She reportedly christened "The Simply Amazing Three Dimensional Two Tone Transcontinental Nixon Agnew New Majority People Machine" bus by pouring water from a ceramic elephant on the front end. Mrs. Nixon also held a football for Tom Dempsey, placekicker for the Philadelphia Eagles, to punt toward the crowd. Senator Bob Dole (wearing a brown suit) is center in the football image.
