#13: Lights Out (July 1991)
Based on the cover?
Yes! I love Holly's outfit.
The plot:
There's a killer on the loose at Camp Nightwing, and it's doing nothing for Holly's social life. The other counselors are just so mean, especially whichever one's trying to kill her. Is Holly doomed to unpopularity and death, or will she solve the mystery and have a fun summer?
Typical quote:
"Paddling down the White River, Holly wondered how she had managed to make so many enemies in such a short time."
Worth reading?
Yes! This book is a delightful glug of haterade, made all the more palatable by the fact that Holly's naysayers might get murdered. It's YA, so the body count is much lower than might be expected from a Friday the 13th homage, but the violent scenes it does contain are New Blood-levels of gruesome. Not big on twists, of course--they reveal the killer's (ridiculous) motive in the first chapter. Still, Stine has a lot of fun with the whodunit. We know the killer writes letters, and so throughout the book, Stine ominously reveals that each character has been writing a whole lot of letters. Which letter-writer is it? Wouldn't Holly like to know!
Tom McCaffrey stand-up set — May 2012
This throwback is on the font page of FunnyOrDie all of a sudden. It's from 2010 and was initially an Atom.com exclusive, a site that no longer exists, and aired on Comedy Central's Atom TV. My involvement is actually less minimal than it seems; I wrote/produced the music to this (with finishing touches, mix/master, by Andy Barlow) in addition to my singing of the hook.
It was cool to work with all these peeps (Rob Cantrell, Tom McCaffrey, Joe DeRosa, Hannibal Buress, Ted Alexandro, Dan Curry) since at the time I was but a year or so into stand up. I remember running out of work to film this during my lunch breaks. There's definitely some embarrassing irony in me singing the "I'm a Headliner" part, but let's just consider it foreshadowing?
NEXT SHOW - THURSDAY, MAY 24, 8pm
The guests for the next Running Late with Scott Rogowsky have been booked. Those guests names are David Cross and Amber Tamblyn.
That's David FUCKING Cross (Mr. FUCKING Show, Arrested FUCKING Development, Alvin and the FUCKING Chipmunks)
and Amber FUCKING Tamblyn (127 FUCKING Hours, House FUCKING M.D., Sister-FUCKING-hood of the Traveling Pants)
Oh, and stand-up comedian Tom McCaffrey (Comedy Central, TruTV)
