THOMAS: It was always a quiet night. Until it wasn’t.
That was the mantra of Swynlake. Of the police force. Of the fire department. Of the hospital too, he was sure, though he didn’t have direct experience.
When the radio crackled to life to report the fire at the Hunted Deer, Tom just sighed and flicked on his sirens. He saw this coming. The escalation of assaults on the Deer and the subsequent bannings. He had tried to brainstorm with Maximus ways to de-escalate things, but Gaston wasn’t to be reasoned with. And without more evidence on the vandals, there wasn’t much they could do on that side of things either.
So, maybe this was preventable, but Tom couldn’t think about that now. He could just think about getting there and making sure no one was hurt and the fire department was taking care of things. Be there to take statements. Figure out what had happened.
When he got there, the paramedics and fire department was already there and gearing up.
