hiiiiiii [said, perfectly sane and not at all covered in blood] quartermaster thoughts? spare quartermaster thoughts ? hahaah? haliaetus or canon stuff, idkk, i just think he's neat!
(im so sane. its perfectly normal to giggle at murder machines being freaks. i want to squish them)
HELLO HELLO <33333 YESYES I HAVE QM THOUGHTS TO SPARE specifically hell im gonna outline some bullet points about qm's background in haliaetus some of which are also my general headcanons for him:
kind like late 40s (mentioned this in a conversation in ch2 but bringing attention to this nonetheless)
went into the army relatively early (20-ish yo), was a ground troop while in the state military, then went/was transferred into logistics there. after his contract was up, he signed up for a private force and trained as a pilot, but barely ever got to use that experience there. he didn't renew his contract there either and tried to settle down, eventually going into civilian logistics to busy himself with something. this was unfortunately Boring As Fuck so he gladly took up the Syndicate's offer and flew for a good few years before having an Unfortunate Incident with him ending up as the only surviving pilot in 6-3, which also prompted him to transfer into 2-7 as a logistics officer not long after that
(as of the beginning of the game) has been in TF27 for about 6-8 years and in 6-3 for about 4 years before that
former heli pilot (hence Osprey being his old codename - also a bird, and nobody but pilots seem to have bird-related codenames in the syndicate; again, mentioned in ch2)
his real-life surname is Ausprey. lmao
he obviously has ptsd but in a way he doesnt properly register because he doesnt want to move away from the military and the lifestyle and dangers that come with it
speaking of the dangers. yeah the guy is a freak. im warning you the stuff below might range from salacious to disturbing with emphasis on the latter
so aside from the obvious sexual sadism i gave him in my fic i actually think he gets his kicks quite similarly to 106, that being the thrill of the fight, the fear of his targets and the threat to his own life - he's just rationalised the absolute fuck out of it over the years
despite that he still subconsciously searches around him for some kind of proof that his kind of love for violence and killing is actually not that uncommon and it's just that everyone pretends otherwise... and [considering my hc for 2-7 having a (quite literally) cutthroat and violent reputation among other task forces] it's safe to say he's been getting a very skewed perception of this particular issue as of late
which is also why he gravitates towards 106 among other reasons. most people don't fully see him as human and are often afraid as hell of him (especially those who have seen him in action) and aside from wanting to be out in the field again himself qm would Very much like to see 106 fight. and i think he'd genuinely enjoy seeing it too, regardless of whether or not he gets to participate
and it's not like he hadn't seen ruthless and feared soldiers before and also haven't gotten freaky with some of them, but a) he hasn't been out there in action in a while b) the difference is that 106 is violent in such an effortless and unapologetic way it's alluring more than anything
and 106 is perceptive enough to know that there's Something Not Unlike Himself going on under that uniform and behind that mask. kinda like an animalistic knowing if you will.
concerning the types of violence qm enjoys: 1) open fights 2) sneak attacks 3) interrogating people. yes, including less than standard interrogation options.
on that note: one thing he has that 106 doesn't is the ability to influence people psychologically rather than through direct threats of physical harm. he's not necessarily a master manipulator but he knows enough about how to talk people into slipping up to be able to combine it with the violent methods of info extraction to achieve an effective balance.
another background hc i have is that there really aren't a lot of people in TF27, so sometimes people will de-facto be overseeing multiple parts of the base's life. as such, qm handles both logistics and intelligence, though he is directly subordinate to the director in that last regard (as opposed to logistics, which he oversees fully and makes the executive decisions on)
i swear i had more to say but part of this post got deleted and my brain is refusing to recover any more than this ): maybe i'll write more on this later
ps i will not be justifying any of this. my niche blorbo my turn to make him be morally fucked up
