It was Seamus who appeared in front of her as she surveyed the repairs on the sail.
“Fish is here, Captain,” he told her.
She’d always look first, because this fisherman always put in a special piece ‘for the Captain’. She inspected the food. There was only her regular order. She looked at Seamus. “Load it.”
Peeved, she shouted harshly at the crew to continue on the sail and then she walked off the ship and down the pier. She walked until she found his ship in its usual spot. She walked over the gangplank and onto his ship.
He was working on a fishing net, his strong hands twisting the rope expertly to weave it into a net. His dark hair obscured his eyes from this angle. He looked up as he heard her, his green eyes always bright against the blue of the sea locked with hers.
“Did I do something to anger you?” she asked him.
He had the nerve to smile at her. As if he didn’t know what she was capable of. He placed the net beside him and stood up. “No one said you’re entitled to the best fish I can catch.”
She raised her eyebrows. “I wouldn’t claim so.”
He chuckled. “I didn’t give it to Seamus so you’d come over here. It’s extra special and I wanted to make sure it was all yours.”
