This is a tasty recipe that is a copycat of Tommy's Original Double Chili Cheeseburger. It has toasted buns, chili, onions that have been sauted, melted cheese, and diced tomatoes.
Ingredients: 2 lbs ground beef. 1 cup diced onions. 1 cup diced tomatoes. 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese. 1 cup canned chili. 4 hamburger buns. Salt and pepper to taste.
Instructions: Warm up the grill or pan on the stove over medium-high heat. Form the ground beef into 8 thin patties that are all the same size. Add salt and pepper to the patties. The patties should be cooked on a grill or stove for two to three minutes on each side, or until they are done the way you like them. In a different pan, cook the diced onions until they become clear while the patties are cooking. In a saucepan over low heat, warm up the chili from a can. Put a piece of cheddar cheese on top of each patty and let it melt. You can grill or toast the hamburger buns until they are just barely browned. Put a patty with melted cheese on the bottom bun to put the burgers together. Put some onions that have been cooked on top of the patty. Put a lot of canned chili on top of the onions. Put small pieces of tomato on top of the chili. Add a second patty on top of the first one with melted cheese to finish. Put the other half of the bun on top. Enjoy while hot!
