Reflections on an impossible win

One year on from completing what has been rated as one of the greatest comebacks in sport, ORACLE TEAM USA is looking ahead at the challenge of racing in the next America’s Cup. But that doesn’t mean this day isn’t a little bit special. It was exactly one year ago, on September 25, when ORACLE TEAM USA won for the eighth consecutive time to complete THE comeback, and win the America’s Cup 9-8.

Given time to reflect, sailing team manager Tom Slingsby says the bonds forged in the fire of competition last time are still strong as the team moves forward. “We all went through so much together last time and we’ll always have that shared experience,” says Slingsby, who was the strategist on the boat during the last campaign. “Even now, when we get together as a group, we’re talking about various things that happened, and laughing at some of the memories.
