tondratic replied to your post “male youtube artist voice: use a soft brush when painting females hard...”
so many portfolios by male "industry leaders" have dudes, robots, and buildings with so much variety and character! but they just can't seem to imagine drawing women they wouldn't find attractive. just can't...wrap their heads around it.
pretty much. oddly, what bothers me most about the dreary sameness of female beauty as envisioned by male artists is how freakishly small the nose usually is, tho i’ve seem a similar approach taken by some female artists as well.
ϟ Arethey a light of heavy sleeper? Can they sleep through a lot of noise?
Teliac is a light sleeper but fallsback asleep easily. As someone used to roughing it in the wilds she is used tobeing alert while sleeping and will often just doze lightly throughout the dayas opposed to full out deep sleeping, one of the perks to being a half-elf. Shecan’t generally sleep through a lot of noise and has a hard time sleeping intowns or near large groups of people, she is used to the sounds of nature andcan sleep through its familiar non-threatening noises. If she’s been in an arealong enough though she grows accustomed to the familiar noises and will be ableto sleep more soundly though.
She’s also the type that can actawake while still being mostly asleep. As in you can wake her up in the middleof the night and have a full conversation with her she will forget about thewhole thing in the morning.
☮ Ideal place of sleep?
Her ideal place of sleep would benestled in a big fluffy blanket that has been warmed by the fire and preferablywith something (pillow/large dog/bae) to cuddle with. The more nest-like andblankets and warmth the better.
☁ How often does thecharacter dream?
Teliac is a frequent dreamer despiteher short sleep cycles. She’s pretty great at lucid dreaming so her dreams areoften pleasant and she is able to quell most nightmares before they form toomuch. Although infrequent, some of her dreams are also akin to astralprojection in that she is able to project her being into local animals, atalent she has lost in the waking world as a former druid.
Vyendemar’ahunte Saolin:
♔ What size bed do theysleep on?
Vyendemar sleeps in a king bed orprobably something even larger than that. Vy does not move around much whilesleeping but he does sometimes bring his work to bed and when he’s got likefifteen books and assorted manuscripts spread on the covers it is hard to findroom to sleep without in a bed smaller than a king.
❖ Does the character luciddream?
Despite his best attempts to learnhow to lucid dream from an awake state, Vyendemar cannot lucid dream. Hesuffers from a lot of night terrors that he can barely recall, just impressionsof darkness, suffering, and dying and would love to be able to harness thepower of lucid dreaming to make the nightmares stop. Instead he just opts notto dream via sedative teas made with valerian/passionflower blends.
@ Soft or hard mattress?
Vyendemar’s mattress is more on thehard side, being firm and supportive but also comfortable and plush. I guessthat’s called a pillowtop mattress? He also has like a million pillows andlayers of blankets to make things more plush and comfy.
"I’m revoking your privileges." i wasnt kiddin when i said i'd need to send u moar! (but srsly only do it if u wanna : 3)
Nemaen stared into the calm water of the artificial pond, searching for some kind of irregularity or sign of natural flaw in its perfect design and frowning when she detected none. She splashed the water, sending ripples across its glassy surface. A sharp gasp of shock sounded behind her and she looked over her shoulder to find an elegant couple walking one of the garden paths. She smiled at their visible discomfort upon seeing her. She was filthy and barefoot and sitting in the muddy grasses. Everything she imagined they reviled, everything he must revile. The couple hurried passed and she returned to her observation of the emerald green lake. Like his eyes, she a smile flickered before she scowled, I want to punch it too. She smacked the water again, soaking her arm in the process.
Her ears twitched as she detected a pair of heavy footsteps and the soft rustling of mail and plate. She narrowed her eyes and looked back towards the path to see Kyadin heading down the flagstone path towards her. She glowered and got to her feet and she considered whether she could out run the large knight. She really didn’t want to deal with whatever storm cloud had put that frown on eir face.
“You!” ey said closing the distance, “I’m revoking your privileges!”
She stared dumbfounded and threw her hands up in frustration, she squinted her eyes, “What privileges?” She had only been in Sol for three months but she had never seen the warrior so angry.
“You are not to be alone with the Princet Vyendemar’ahun ta Saolin vi Sarath III again! Do you hear me?” ey shouted and Nemaen noticed that the pair had attracted the attention of every visitor in the gardens.
She stuck out her chin, “Well maybe I never want to be in the same room as him again but if I do I will be the one to make that decision! Not some snoot in a fancy suit of useless armour,” she flicked the gold plate in disdain, “Or are you a dog come at eir master’s command?”
Kyadin snapped and grabbed her by the collar of her shirt, lifting her effortlessly a few feet off the ground to bring her eye to eye with eir blind-folded gaze. Ey knew the gesture was silly considering ey couldn’t see but it worked to get the point across that ey was angry and not to be tested. Nemaen struggled in eir strong grasp, it was embarrassing to be lifted as easily as a child.
“I trusted you,” eir voice was calm and smooth like ice, “I trusted you to be alone with him,” eir voice cracked, “I trusted you and you tried to kill him!”
She stopped squirming and looked at him, she barked a laugh, “That’s what this is about? Cause I put his head in a bit of rock? Good gods I should have figured he would run to his mother hen about this.”
Kyadin frowned and contemplated tossing her into the lake.
“Kyadin!” a loud voice rang across the gardens, “That is quite enough!”
Nemaen looked over Kyadin’s shoulder to see Vyendemar striding towards them, shoulder back and head held high, the very image of commanding authority.
“Justify your reasons for assaulting one of my guests,” he narrowed his eyes and folded his arms and even though Kyadin was a good foot taller than Vyendemar ey felt very small under that angry gaze.
“Ra’ihanli-” Vyendemar held up a hand and Kyadin sighed as he gently set Nemaen to the ground.
Vyendemar tilted his head slightly, the impassive facade of dismissive superiority on his face made Nemaen feel a twang of pity for Kyadin. Ey had only been acting out on Vyendemar’s best interest and it didn’t seem fair to her that ey should be punished so, at least not by him.
“Vy-”
“Princet Vyendemar’ahun,” he said cutting her off and fixing her with steely uncaring eyes.
She seethed and stormed towards the path, overcoming the compulsion to push him in the lake. Vyendemar and Kyadin stared at one another, Vy tapping his ornate leather tooled boots in the soft grass as the two exchanged a silent conversation across the mental link that bonded them. Without another word Vyendemar turned, elegant airy gold cloak streaming behind him as he left the gardens, Kyadin on right on his heel.
The pair found Nemaen in the training yard beating an armed squire with only her fists. Vyendemar arched an eyebrow and the squire dropped to her knees. Nemaen whirled, fists clenched as she lifted clumps of earth into the air around her. Vyendemar tilted his head and the squire bowed, tripping over her feet in her haste to flee. Vyendemar walked towards her, eyes passing through her as he observed the courtyard around them. They were alone. He slumped his shoulders and sighed heavily, suddenly weary from the performance and the glares of the nobles from the garden. Weary of seeing Nemaen scowl.
He turned to Kyadin, “She was just joking. Nemaen had no intention of hurting me… well not fatally,” his smile was filled with kindness as he placed a hand on Kyadin’s arm.
Nemaen’s brow furrowed and she stepped towards the two. Kyadin flicked his head towards her, sensing her approach and feeling the whirl of magical energy that surrounded her. Are you sure, ey asked along the bond.
Positive, Vy smiled in reassurance.
Nemaen lifted the clumps of dirt over Vyendemar and shook them loose, sending a cloud of dirt and dust over him. His eyes widened and he slowly turned to look at her, his eye twitched and she smiled in mischief. Kyadin surpressed a chuckle with the back of eir hand. Vy was covered head to toe in dust, his luscious locks covered in a small mountain of dirt.
“That’s for being a snoot,” she said.
Vy raised his hands and the gesture brought dirt down into his eyes and he scrunched them tight. He screamed internally and Kyadin placed a hand on his shoulder.
Ra’ihanli you can’t blame her for hating you for being an ass back there.
He struggled to keep the frustrated tears back, By the light I hate this damned game of politics. I wish I could allow her to be herself. But you should have known better than to cause a scene in public!
You could try explaining that to her, Kyadin shrugged, and yes I should not have done that as I have already said.
Vyendemar sighed and reached within himself and embraced the magic, his eyes glowing yellow with ayre energies. He swirled the air around himself, picking up the dust and dirt particles in a whirlwind. When sufficiently dusted off he directed the tornado of dust to the ground.
“I guess I deserved that,” he conceded to Nemaen as he tried in vain to adjust his hair.
Nemaen slumped her shoulders, it was no fun to tease him when he was in a self-deprecating mood. She walked over to him and reached up to smooth his bangs into their usual place. He blinked in surprise and a rosy blush spread across his cheeks.
She extended her arm and gave him a cheery grin, “Shall I escort you to your rooms so you can fix yourself properly?”
Vyendmear smiled and took her arm, “Gladly.”
Nemaen looked back at Kyadin, “Your knight has to come too, I’m not allowed to be alone with you anymore. Might get up to no-good shenanigans,” she winked at Vy and he blushed even harder.
13. What is your OCs earliest memory?Vy’s earliest memory is leaving home at the age of five to study at Soulglow Spire, where spell-seers are sent to learn to control their magical abilities. He remembers being excited about the trip, being a mage meant he was unique and special and he was still too young to realize the hardship that status would bring. He also remembers vague uses of magic to cause shenanigans around the castle (”How absurd of you to assume a small child could have reached those cookies mother!”).
39. Who is your OCs biggest enemy?A better question might be who is not. As the heir to one of Arassil’s wealthiest provinces he has too few friends and almost every smile hides a dagger. His biggest enemies politically are those that oppose him as the Rising Sun (heir to the Sol crown) in favour of his younger non-magical brother Faelin, they call themselves the Untainted. Although Vy is sad to admit it, Faelin himself is probably one of his biggest enemies.
Another big enemy is Araxis of Whitelaw. As the only heir to one of the only completely 100% magic free bloodlines he stands as the perfect marriage candidate to appease the assassination-hungry Untainted. He’s a huge asshole and everyone hates him.
As for people he openly admits disdain for, the award for least favourite person goes to the First Sword of Amber Reach, Aleira Brier. Brier is a woman who has dedicated her life to maintaining balance between the magical elves and non-magical elves across Arassil. Chiefly this involves preventing mages from selling their arts as weapons of war and in order to halt spell-swords she sometimes has to use lethal measures. Vyendemar is still a child (in elf standards) and holds an idealized worldview that his siblings in magic would never do the things Brier claims and therefore finds her to be villainous.
43. Who is your OCs biggest hero? His biggest hero would probably be Kyadin cause he’s a nerd like that. The knight protects him every day and has sworn eir life to be his shield against all harm. Don’t tell the smoll big gf cause she’s on the list
Kyadin
20. What is your OCs favourite kind of pizza?Anything with at least three types of meat, the knight needs eir protein!
51. What is your OCs favourite genre of music?Kyadin is the type of elf who tends to enjoy as much in life as possible so ey enjoys most genres. If Arassil had access to our music ey would probably get a huge kick outta Enya though.
52. How does your OC feel about insects?Ey honestly can’t get enough of them! They are so small and little and yet inspire such fear and terror, truly noble beasts. Eir the type of nerd that places insects gently in the grass or on the windowsill while eir young princet whines in terror, particularly moths.
