Had a wonderful dinner at the Tonga room in the Fairmont Hotel last night for a birthday dinner! First drink was too strong for me, so I switched to a mai tai. I had a miso soup, poke salad, and a baked Alaska. So good!
april is off to a good start in terms of fun! james and i hung out at our new complex yesterday and had breakfast next to the pool, which was great. we got a few errands done and then met laura and george over at kaycee's. we went to the tonga room in san francisco--ive wanted to go there for forever, and it didn't disappoint. afterwards we got a drink at a rooftop restaurant and then checked out the bay bridge just for funsies. i wanted to share that i was able to lose exactly 10 lbs in march :) im really happy with this progress and am super motivated for april. ......howeverrrrrrr haha april 1st went downhill quickly with food once i had an alcoholic beverage in my hand. i dont drink much anymore so when i do, it hits pretty hard. it'll be my only night drinking this month so i dont plan on eating like that again. but the 10 lbs was a solid start, better than ive had in a long time. im really excited for this year and all the changes itll bring.
A liquor license application indicated Tonga Room will open in the space that was The Heights. Here’s some background on what’s up with that.
Tonga Room and The Heights in Portland: Some Background
Out and about in SF with our youngest set of nieces (one of whom snapped this pic).
The Hot Wife loves tiki bars and cocktails. We always hit the Tonga Room when we’re in town. It’s been in operation since 1945 and is one of the few surviving examples of high tiki style. Gorgeous interior, a pool with a boat (where the band plays), and rain that occasionally falls from the ceiling into the pool accompanied by thunder. Tiki bars usually have creative mocktails too. 😁
Fun article from SFGate about SF's historic Tonga Room at the Fairmont. I've only been once or twice as a kid & remember it being cool AF! This brought back memories & I definitely want to go back now as an adult! Perhaps for my bday in a few weeks? Idk but I hope so! Have you ever been??
