I’m Angry
So, The Lightning Thief Musical (1 of 4 eligible musicals this year) got 0 nominations for the 2020 Tony Awards. The American Theatre Wing is a bunch of Old White Men(TM) that has a history of making (in my opinion) bad choices about awards.
It’s the Old White Men(TM) not understanding media that caters to a young audience.
It’s about them never having read the source material and therefore not recognizing the tone of the show properly and just interpreting it as bad instead of stylized.
It’s the fact that it’s already left broadway and therefore giving it a few awards won’t make them any more money.
It’s about the show not playing by the traditional rules about how a show gets to broadway.
It’s about the show’s primary goal being wanting to please it’s core demographic instead of adhering to the American Theatre Wing’s predetermined criteria for a Good Successful Musical.
It’s about it not being dark. There’s not death, not drugs, not sex so therefore it can’t be a Serious Musical(TM).
I’m angry, I’m upset. But I’m not surprised. We shouldn’t expect anything from awards shows and even if the Tony’s don’t appreciate The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical, I still love it for all the reasons listed above and MORE! I think in the end, the official musical twitter said it best:

Hey Tony Awards. Why. Why this over the better, and more preferable, alternative of Absolutely Nothing At All.
