NaNoWriMo Day 2: 3,361/50,000

So far the hardest part of NaNoWriMo has been realizing that I'm gonna need to edit everything, but NOT stopping to edit.

For anyone curious, the story I'm writing is this one.

Lizard dorks on adventures trying to not die!

Action! Adventure! Monsters! Fire! Cults? Monsters? Talking birds? Gaaaaay stuff?

Hi. Yes. Hello I would like to talk about NaNoWriMo. Do you have any advice on how to make a character that people would love to hate but also hate to love?

[NOTE: I am by no means an authority on writing/storytelling, anyone reading this is more than welcome to disagree with me on anything said. Thank you.]

The thing people love to forget about humans is, regardless of how objectively evil the rest of the world can decide someone is? THAT PERSON always feels justified in their actions.

If you write a good believable character with realistic motivations, even if they have a very disagreeable world-view that causes them to do terrible things, people will resonate with them. Either because they agree with their views even if they disagree with their actions, or they feel sympathy for them as they watch the character miss every opportunity to be a better person, or because they understand it’s all fiction and want to indulge in their dark side via a harmless non-existent proxy person.

Just remember no one’s 100% bad or good, and it’s all relative to their life experiences, their environment and their society. So don’t ever feel like a character can’t do or say certain things because of their arbitrary trope-labels. Your story may only have one or two protagonists, but each character in your story is the protagonist of their own lives. Treat them as such.

Oh yeah totes! I mean, I’m not really on the website much past updating my word count, so do whatever you feel! It don’t bother me none. : D

OKAY. I've resurrected my old dusty NaNoWriMo profile from back when I went by "Tezzle" that I haven't used since freshman year of college.

Re-input my old novel information, as much as it pained me to open up my *shivers* teenage-era prose...

Now I'm FINALLY READY to start my novel (which will actually be my next webcomic, but SHHHHH I just really need the motivator to write down the fucking story, script or prose I don't give a FUCK)

I need to feel like I can make something and see it through. I haven't done that in a while.

So I'm participating in NaNoWriMo. Literally just this second decided.

I might re-write the story I never finished the last year I tried.

I'm out of school so this is a good time for me to do it!
