I don't remember who I was chatting with about this, but here's a late '80s Rat Bones ad with Lance and Cab showing Ollie Bolts...these were the way we used to modify our boards to allow us to lift our street ollies. It was an easy hack where you would take the front 2 bolts on your front truck and put the nuts on the top of your board. This led to always having these two holes in the pinky toe area of your front foot shoe. It however did not lead to being able to ollie like Cab or Lance...which I can attest to with the scars on my shins from trying to ollie onto picnic tables...☠️☠️☠️ . With the advent of the kicknose, ollie bolts disappeared, which I can't say was a bad thing. But this is a rare view of pros who had them. TBT to when I got my first skateboard helmet and pads. I think I was 9 here...I got the red Free Former helmet and pads and a blue plastic Free Former skateboard. I just remember that I was bummed that I didn't get a SIMS Pure Juice board that I had seen in my first Skateboarder Magazine, but I made do. I skated that board until it completely fell apart. I also got drums and my first pair of Chucks. This was my punk rock Christmas...soon I discovered music and my world exploded. The next Christmas I got a Kryptonics Micke Alba complete that they let me order from Val Surf out of the back of Skateboarder Magazine...I loved that board until I left it in the driveway and it got smashed by a tire.........☠️ . . #thankyouskateboarding #toooldtoskate #toofattoskate #stylish #helmethead #freeformer #skateboard #babydavid #thebeginning
