i like the idea that dream and nightmare project their magic in visually different ways. nightmare is capable of morphing their form to be anything they want which includes the tentacles. dream, however, keeps themself in a mainly "normal" skeletal/humanoid form. i havent seen many depictions myself where dream utilizies that shapeshifting ability. (i did see a cool design where dream had glowing tentacles despite having the same positive guardian role)
i am curious abt where dream being depicted with wings comes from. was it swap dream or something else? i honestly found it fascinating how dream with wings played into the whole "angelic" depiction dream can have. guardian angel. just. angel.
my own headcanon of the wings or tentacles that dream or nightmare project coming from an intense magical influx from consuming the apples aside, it is cool to see those features toyed with
