My Top 12 Beers of 2012

According to Untappd, these are the brews I checked-in to most during 2012:

1.) Guiness Draught (7) 2.) Sixpoint Apollo (6) 3.) Sixpoint Brownstone, Budweiser, Boulevard Pale Ale (TIE, 6.) 6.)Sixpoint Autumnation, Sixpoint Sweet Action (TIE, 4) 8.) Sixpoint Diesel, Pabst Blue Ribbon, Sixpoint Wheatball Ale, Kelso Pilsner (TIE, 3)

In comparison, looking at my top brewers, I drank nearly twice as many beers by Sixpoint (29) than the next nearest brewer (Brooklyn Brewery) and Boulevard (12).  While I'm confident I drank a few more beers than I made check-ins on Untappd (229), but the results are pretty representative of my beer drinking habits during 2012.  What were some of your favorite beers during 2012?

Top five beers I tried for the first time this year:

5. Brouwerij Bavik - Petrus Aged Pale. A phenomenal light and drinkable sour that was a treat in both the bottle and on draft.

4. Sierra Nevada Brewing - Hoptimum. Sierra Nevada branched out big-time this year, cranking out several new brews, including this hop-monster, and starting a brewery in the Carolinas. This one is a must-try for hop heads.

3. Schlafly Beer - Pumpkin Ale. I first heard tell of this beer back in May, when I overheard someone ask a liquor store owner if it was two early to reserve a case (it wasn't). The store in my neighborhood hid the beer in the cooler so that only the initiated would know to ask for it. More pumpkin pie than beer, and all the better for it.

2. Sierra Nevada Brewing - Homegrown Estate Ale. My love affair with wet-hopped beers really got going this year, and this one is an absolute joy. Incredibly fresh and reasonably priced.

1. New Belgium Brewing - Lips of Faith: La Folie. I had the opportunity to have La Folie from the bottle and on draft, and in both cases, it's a fantastic Flemish brown-style sour ale. Complex, fruity, and mouth-puckeringly sour (especially in the bottle), it's both refreshing and confounding.

Honorable Mentions: Firestone Walker Wookey Jack, Ken Schmidt/Iron Fist/Stone Mint Chocolate Imperial Stout, Flying Dog Single Hop Series
