(Tophattailsandteeth) "Really Johannes, we were just dancing. You know how Mary loves records. You have met Mary haven't you? No, no I don't suppose you have. How long /have/ you been up there?" Horst picked up a tea towel following his brother into the kitchen to help wash up. "And don't complain. The house is so much happier with visitors in it, don't you think? The place almost looks lived in"
@tophattailsandteeth
“I have not, and it is probably best to remain unacquainted.”
Johannes ignored Horst’s question about how long he had been at work in an effort to avoid another lecture. He cuffed his sleeves above his elbows, and began filling the sink with hot water.
As he did, he glared at his brother’s reflection in the darkened windowpane.
“No, I do not. What do you think will happen when one of your so-called paramours figures out who else lives in this house? I doubt very much that would work out well for either of us.”
"alright, alright, keep your shirt on!" Horst allowed himself to be ushered out into the corridor, the punch to his arm feeling about as painful as bat from a kitten's paw. "Just one question. Who is she? However did you convince her to take that charming photo? And why don't you keep it somewhere safer than your sock drawer?" ~tophattailsandteeth
By way of answer, Johannes slammed the door in Horst’s face.
How does Horst feel about your change?
“He’s angry for some reason I fail to understand. I can still cure him, so I haven’t broken a promise like he seems to think I have. He’s being immature and melodramatic.”
Lets lay down some house rules, shall we?
|| Ten House Rules || Cabal Edition
[**Note: Cabal would like for it to be known that Miss Barrow is a deplorable nuisance and snoop and that he objects to allowing her to take up residence in his house. (This Author will ignore him) ]
Since Miss Barrow isn’t banned from the village for 28 days out of 30, trips to market are her responsibility. plus she eats more and should contribute.
All experiments and occult materials must be kept in either the attic, downstairs study or basement. These rooms are kept locked and Cabal keeps the only key.
Cabal is responsible for all plumbing repairs. (He’s good at it and no plumbers will come to the house after the debacle with the water tank residents)
Miss Barrow is not allowed in the basement, and must be supervised by Cabal in the attic. She’s not allowed to touch anything, make idle chat or read aloud.
Miss Barrow is to keep her cosmetics and other things confined to ONE shelf in the washroom that was especially built for to deal with her clutter things. All other items belonging to Miss Barrow shall be confined to the guest room she inhabits.
Horst and Leonie are not allowed to gang up. Instead, house meetings will be held once monthly, and a list of agreed upon compromise added to these rules.
Cabal is not allowed to threaten or attempt murder, harm or experiments upon Miss Barrow. She will revoke his license and hand him over to the local constabulary.
The record player will be kept at a set and reasonable volume. At ten each night, Cabal will be permitted to listen to the Sherlock Holmes serial.
Miss Barrow is not allowed to use Cabal, his likeness, relatives (living or undead), or any other thing having to do with him in regards to her own course of study. If such materials are discovered, they will be destroyed in the coal furnace.
Miss Barrow shall be added to the Compact and given official Invitationand protection from the unseelie of the garden.
Bonus rule:
11. Horst is not allowed to kiss or bite or do anything else vile with Miss Barrow.
Oh no, here's my Url! What cha make of that, huh?
My Opinion on;
Character in general: All right, sit down, kids! First of all, I love their sibling dynamic with the scientist. Surely, their rivalry of sorts may be due to their rather opposing natures but I believe their disputes in the past could easily be attributed to misunderstandings and a complete lack of understanding for the other, though the vampire never shied away from trying to understand. Their interactions are one of my favorite parts about the books in and of themselves if I’m being honest. Their relation to one another is one of caring, of rivalry, of perhaps even envy ---- and yet they’re still brothers at the end of the day, brothers who, despite their past and the scientist’s jackassery (yes, that’s a word), are still able to throw back and forth quick-witted retorts, only to lapse into laughter together. Likewise, the contrast between their personalities is truly fascinating to me. Because while the vampire might not necessarily be book smart, there’s never any doubt that the vampire is highly skilled in matters involving people. This one’s got a silver tongue, quick to generate ideas and plans in said social situations whereas the scientist is at a loss, and unwilling to indulge in what the vampire refers to as reverse psychology. In short, the vampire is a feeler type without question, one with such a prominent moral complex, and yet he proves that good doesn’t always go hand in hand with niceness. He is capable to see when something is necessary, or moralistic given that they had it coming either way (e.g. first book) and so his moral compass, while inherently good, is nonetheless complex. What I also like about him is that he showcases that there are multiple areas in which one may be exceptionally well versed in. It doesn’t always have to be ancient tongues and the sciences.
What’s more, his inner struggle with his animalistic nature, the duality of it, is something I’ve got a weakness for. Truly, while it might have been done a hundred times over, I still like to see the struggle between rationality and good behavior and the other hungering, lurking, hedonistic side of human nature. I think that his struggles add a twist to the aforementioned cliche (it IS a bit of an overdone cliche, no?) that I personally really enjoyed.
How they play them: Ah, this is where I’ll have to resort to shortness because we’ve never actually talked in extensive detail about your portrayal like I’ve started doing with a certain duchess, so forgive me if this section is unfairly short. What I do know whenever I stumble across your blog, however, is that your vampire makes me smile at the screen as if they’re a super cheap book deal for a research book I’ve been wanting for forever. You manage to incorporate his humor, his affable disposition, and his sociable nature in such an effortless way that never ceases to amaze me. I’m confident your portrayal in this regard is very close to canon indeed, and doesn’t venture into OOC territory at all. What I’d like to see more, however: more sexual innuendos/puns, please. The vampire has a reputation of liking these, does he not? What I’d also like to see more of is the vampire struggling --- with anything, really, so long as there’s an internal or external struggle of some kind. Also! Headcanons. I’d love to read about what you might add to the vampire and I’d love to see you post more of them, as they can serve as an effective way to add your own personal signature to the vampire. What I’ve also briefly seen/read but not in detail: If I remember correctly, the vampire was not immediately agreeable upon learning that his brother has gotten involved with a certain lady. In this scene, you showed concern, if in a harsh, unfair version, and you also managed to portray that no, just because the vampire is affable and moralistic doesn’t mean he can’t be an asshole from time to time --- even if said concerns weren’t entirely misplaced. Well done, my nerd.
The Mun: Precious cinnamon roll, too precious for this shitty world. Literal sweetheart. Artistic talent I’d like to steal. Should most definitely draw one of my OC’s sometime. -wink, wink- Genuinely kind, creative, and precious. Awesome taste in anime. Awesome taste in books. Awesome, awesome, awesome. We should talk more, though!
Do I:
RP with them: NO BUT I SURE HOPE WE WILL LET’S GO. Want to RP with them: Y E S.
What is my;
Overall Opinion: A+, 19/10 would recommend, ridiculously fantastic art skills, makes phenomenal fanart.
@tophattailsandteeth
Horst put the decanter away after filling his brother’s glass. “Yes that’s true. But this whiskey is good, and its a shame to see go to waste. So looked like you’re going to have to drink for the both of us.”
Horst raised his own imaginary glass in a toast.
“Happy Birthday, Vati”
He made a face, halfheartedly raising his glass in agreement before taking a sip. “You’ve always been the more sentimental one,” he mumbled into his drink, taking a moment of thoughtful silence. “Also, you’re aware that whiskey lasts a while, aren’t you? I don’t need to drink it all now. It isn’t ‘going to waste’ like you seem to think it is.”
