"We make music for fun. I keep saying the same thing, but like, it's like keeping a journal. You know, most people want to keep a journal and they start it when they're an adult, but they don't actually do it. You'll find with most people that do keep a journal as an adult, they've been doing it since like twelve or thirteen, and they're like, 'I don't know why I do it'. It just happens… It's a ceremony. If I don't do it, I feel weird. So, that's what I'm like, and that's what we're like with music. So, the music just builds up. Like, it happens regardless of whether there's an incoming album or whatever."

"You'll find that a lot of people who journal as an adult have been doing it since they were about twelve or thirteen. People will try and do it, but it'll drop off. The people who still do it kind of don't know why they do it, it's just part of their day. They feel weird if they don't. That's The 1975 for me. That's The 1975 for all of us. If I don't do that, it feels odd. It's a bit like therapy. You go into therapy and you say, 'I feel like this and the reason I feel like this is because of that'. And then a good therapist will go, 'Are you sure you don't feel like this, and are you sure that the reason you don't feel like this is because of that?' And you go, 'Oh my god'. That happens to me with songs all the time. I think I've written something about something and then some seventeen-year-old kid is like 'Oh yeah, you know how that song is about this,' and I'm like, whoa."
