Love our Ray family visits 💗💗 We met these cuties at a resort in Mexico.. many moons ago. They were on their honeymoon and we were all just living the no-kid, couples life. So much has changed between then and now, but the one thing that remains is great conversation and connected at the heart. ⠀ ⠀ Thank you so much to Lynda and Dan for having us in your suite to watch the game. And thank you to Dale for showing Jason and Jackson how to use that beast of a camera. ⠀ ➡️➡️📸📸 ⠀ #cfl #edmontoneskimos #torontoargonauts #friendsforlife #beautifulsouls ⠀ ⠀ (at Commonwealth Stadium) https://www.instagram.com/p/B0ZujgbgjTn/?igshid=1i5oy7ndkd417
TORONTO – Lemar Durant led the way through the air and John White carried BC on the ground as the Lions outlasted the Toronto Argonauts 18-17 Saturday Night at BMO Field. In one of the more bizarre finishes you will see, Sergio Castillo lined up for a 42-yard field goal with no time on the clock and pulled the kick wide left. The ball went through the endzone however, and the Lions earned a rouge and the win. In what was a slow-progressing game, John White tallied 138 yards and a touchdown on 22 carries while Durant built on his hot start to 2019 with 9 catches for 125 yards and a touchdown in the Leos win. Both teams entered Week 4 looking to earn their first victory of the season after dropping road games last weekend. The Argos fell behind early to the Saskatchewan Roughriders and never recovered. They lost the game and their starting quarterback, James Franklin, to a hamstring injury. As for the Leos, they controlled all but the final seven minutes of their contest in Calgary, allowing the defending champs to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat in a stunning come-from-behind win. BC Lions QB Mike Reilly threw for 272 yards and 1 TD Photo: Geoff Robins, CFL.ca McLeod Bethel-Thompson got the start for Toronto with Franklin parked on the six-game injured list. After stalling on his first two possessions, the third-year pivot go the Argos on the board first by setting up a 31-yard Drew Brown field goal after completing a 45-yard pass to Armanti Edwards on a go route. The rest of the first quarter went on without incident and both offences were held in check. The clubs traded interceptions on consecutive possessions to begin the second frame, with the Lions earning their first three points off a 14-yard field goal by Castillo to tie the game at the 8:22 mark. The rain-soaked BMO field for the majority of the first half which forced both clubs to lean on their tailbacks. Lions RB John White IV finished the first half with 8 carries for 81 yards. The Lions finally posted the first major of the game with just under 10 minutes remaining whenReilly spotted SB Durant for a 29-yard touchdown. Durant pulled away from DB Abdul Kanneh, who bit on a pump fake, and hauled in the corner-route uncontested. Durant’s fourth touchdown of the season was aided by a James Wilder Jr. fumble which was recovered by Lions DB TJ Lee at the Argonauts’ 45-yard line. With the Lions taking their first lead of the game and the Argos offence sputtering, Toronto took some of the momentum back with four minutes left in the third quarter thanks to their special teams. Former Lions RBChris Rainey fielded a punt deep in his own territory, broke a tackle and bounced outside, bursting 79-yards for an Argos touchdown. They would miss the convert and the Lions remained up 10-9. The Lions, who had trouble getting traction in the first half, marched right back to answer the Argos score with White capping off an impressive 9-play, 75-yard drive with a three-yard touchdown. Now with an eight-point lead, the Lions defence held off the ensuing push by the Argos, stopping Wilder Jr. on a third down gamble inside the BC 40-yard line. One last effort for the Argos took place when they scrimmaged from their own 52-yard line with 1:45 on the clock. Bethel-Thompson found Llevi Noel for a pair for a pair of first downs before spotting Wilder Jr. who powered his way into the endzone. SJ Green hauled in a two-piint conversion with 38 seconds left to tie the ball game. An illegal kick on the ensuing kickoff gave the Lions great field position and Reilly did the rest, completing a pair of passes to set up the winning point off the Castillo missed field goal. The Argonauts will take to the road next week as they visit Winnipeg to face the unbeaten Blue Bombers. The Lions, meanwhile, return home to host Reilly’s old mates from Edmonton on Thursday Night Football. BY KRISTINA COSTABILE, CFL.CA,@KCOSTABILE1 We are just over a week into #CFLTC, if you can believe it! We already have one pre-season game in the books – the Edmonton Eskimostopped the BC Lions 22-7 at Commonwealth Stadium on Sunday afternoon. For the rest of the league, who start their pre-season schedule this weekend, players are grinding hard across the country getting ready for the 2019 campaign. The next few weeks are just that, agrind, that will be filled with early mornings, late nights, meetings, and, in some cases, sleeping in dorm-style rooms as everyone fights for spots on their respective team’s rosters. And each player has their own secret to surviving training camp. DON UNAMBA HAD THE FIRST INT OF THE 2019 PRE-SEASON SCHEDULE ON SUNDAY (ESKS.COM) Edmonton Eskimos linebacker Don Unamba (who had an interception in the first play of the game on Sunday, by the way. No big deal.) has his own checklist he likes to follow (a checklist that is full of very, very good ideas): 1. Stretch bands 2. Case of Gatorade 3. Sunflower Seeds for meetings (he says these are a must) 4. Pringles and Peanut M&Ms for late-night snacks Calgary Stampeders offensive lineman Derek Dennis has been through camp many times before, now heading into his fifth season in the CFL, and has figured out exactly how to get through it. To help with the wear and tear of the daily on-field activities, Dennis brings a bunch of things keep his body healthy including essential B vitamins, flax seed oils, joint creams, protein powder for shakes, pre-workout, amino powder, Pedialyte and a lot of water. As for comfort? He says he needs a mattress topper for the dorm beds and a TV and video game console to keep busy in between practices and meetings. As for Dennis’ teammate Kamar Jorden, any form of entertainment is a must. He has to have his laptop (he says he would go crazy without it) to watch Netflix, YouTube, or just browsing the internet. “Anything that gives your mind a break from alllll that football is essential for me,” he said. Toronto Argonauts running back James Wilder Jr. needs his bible, his DVD collection, water, vitamin energy and Casper bedding (I can see a trend around the league that the dorm beds arenotcomfortable!). He also needs morning and night FaceTime sessions with his kiddos – dad duties never stop, even when you’re playing football! I had a chat with Hamilton Tiger-Cats defensive end Jamaal Westerman at McMaster University last week after the team’s fourth day of camp. As soon as I asked about training camp necessities, he did not hesitate with his answer. “Gotta get two really nice pillows,” he said. “That’s key. A nice warm blanket. Shower shoes. You don’t want the fungus on your toes. You’ve gotta have your Netflix on point.” Along with those material things, Westerman says a good mindset is just as important to bring with you. “A good attitude,” he continued. “You’ve got to bring a good attitude to training camp because it’s going to be hard. It’s going to be long. It’s going to be tough. There’s going to be adversity. (You’ve got to) have a good attitude and come out and have fun.” JAMAAL WESTERMAN LOOKS ON AT TICATS TRAINING CAMP (TICATS.CA) Training camp is a time for vets to come together and start preparing for the season, but it’s also a chance for rookies to prove their worth and fight for a place on the roster. “One piece of advice that was given to me when I was young at my first day, and I try to carry it every day, was ‘don’t count the days, make the days count.’” remembered Westerman when asked what advice he’d give players attending their first training camp. “Obviously, that’s not my quote but it was one that was given to me as a rookie. Don’t count how long, don’t count how many guys they’re keeping at a certain position, how many guys they’re going to cut, when’s the cut day. “Just focus on your job, focus on your technique, focus on the small things everyday and make everything you do count. Try to show up on film in a good way. Don’t count the bad things, just try to show up every day.” And the best part of camp? “The best part of training camp is when you see things come together,” said Westerman. “For me, being in training camp for a while, when you see the defence coming together. We’re communicating louder, we’re running around together. Guys knowing other guys positions, which allows us to play a lot better, a lot smarter as a group. And seeing everybody again. Most of the time in the CFL you’re gone for six months, you don’t see anybody and now you come out here and get to see everyone. “You haven’t seen guys for months. Guys are now married, they’re having kids, guys finishing up school. It’s just fun to hear the off-season stories. You’re gone for six months and you see your brothers again it’s like, ‘guess what?’ ‘what?’ ‘I’m having a kid, I got married or I went to Fiji’ so that’s always great to hear the stories.” The post CFL How to: Surviving training camp appeared first on American Football International. #TrainingCamp #BCLions #TorontoArgonauts
