An Officer & a Pretty Women? Bah Ha Ha!
Whilst flicking the channels the other night we came across the beginning of Pretty Women, this great 80s chick flick with Julia Roberts and the gorgeous Richard Gere. Well, we continued watching as it certainly brought back some cosy memories. It got to the bit where the characters negotiate a fee for her weeks work, £3000, I turned to my loving husband and said wow, for that money I would take next week off work and be at you beck and call for the week - sounds like a good deal to me? He negotiates it down to £35?! Well, seriously £35 no new dresses, no evenings out and no plush hotel? I reminded my dear (ahem) husband as a young girl I often dreamt of a knight in shining armour or whatever; to come and rescue me Bahhhh, then we grow up and realise the only one who will save our sorry little backsides is ourselves and the rest is a poor fairytale of happy ever after! Needless to say, I went to work as normal!
I have to mention the ’S’ word. It’s driving me crazy as unfortunately despite people telling me you get used to it - we are married bloody unaccompanied. We don’t just get used to it and the sleep deprivation is taking its toll. Yes, the snoring!! I have mentioned the GP and he promises he will make an appointment but, I am not holding out much hope there! (These military folk are of a different line and don’t do civvie doctors) It must drive him just as crazy, he is used to sleeping alone in snoring heaven during the week and suddenly he comes home and the wife is elbowing him in the sides and huffing and puffing due to lack of sleep. I think it's probably safe to say that he is sleeping well whilst at home! It is also safe to say that this snoring malarkey is always going to be a problem I fear! (Rubber mallet maybe?)
I came in from work on Monday after receiving a message from an ex colleague - it was some rather exciting gossip if you like but needless to say ooooooh I was so excited and trundle into the kitchen and say ‘Oh my days, I have just had the best text ever’, he says 'err you did say text right?’ *facepalm or is it *palm slaps his face? (Almost) I respond with 'I’d be worth more than £35 Sir’ touché Mr touché.
We have managed to squeeze in a few local day trips during the leave, we all went off to the Velopark at Goodrington last week, this place is fantastic and many of the calories were burnt off around the track by me. Erin was on a mission to complete miles and miles on a bike and managed quite easily at least ten laps alongside Cory. I managed a comfortable 8 laps before the saddle became too much (never thought I had a boney behind) but we will definitely visit here again. Today we headed off to Torre Abbey. I have been once before for a 'forces family meet’ and was determined that the children would like it, before we went Erin say “seriously Mum, what child wants to learn in the holidays? Museums are boring” she had little choice and we trotter off regardless of the huffing and puffing from the little 'lady’.
Mr was happy anyway as children go free and at the moment it is a two for one offer so it cost a ridiculously low price for a family of four! They also do a forces discount at any other time of the year but all in all. It was £7.85 well spent! This place is surreal and dates back to 1197 it has been restored in many areas and took a good couple of hours to take in the local history. Cory was enthralled and couldn’t quite understand how his school have not visited yet, he is going to tell his history teacher all about it next week! I don’t understand how our children’s schools have not visited yet either particularly as much of the history is about driving out Catholicism in the bay?! The ruins of the church; destroyed by Henry VIII all so well preserved and you can almost imagine standing there before it was brought down to rubble, I found it fascinating, even down to where martyr Cuthbert Mayne was torchured for preaching the catholic faith! We were quite barbaric back then! Hmn all to do with religion as well?! I say no more.
Please visit this place when you get the chance, it is very moving and certainly thought provoking and to be fair - it’s right on our doorstep! You can’t miss it, it’s right on the seafront with a beautiful little cafe (all part of the building) and they are still finding other areas to restore, must be an interesting place to work! We came away wanting to find out some more history surrounding Torre Church! Well, all in all we all learnt some interesting facts - even during the holidays!
