so if any of yall are from the UK you probably know this already, but if not or if you're from somewhere else, it sucks here.

basically there's been a proposal to ban conversion therapy in this country, which is objectively a good thing. except the tory government want to deliberately exclude trans people from being protected by this proposed legislation.

even in face of the fact that the governments own figures clearly state that trans people are nearly twice as likely to experience harm due to conversion therapy, the openly transphobic tory government have declined to include protections for trans people in this bill.

this is where TERF ideology leads people, it leads to people who are already disproportionately harmed by bigotry both in legal and social terms being denied basic protections that other nations have afforded to our community for years.

reminder that the tories police, crime, sentencing and courts bill directly contradicts article 11 of the UN convention on human rights:

"Everyone has the right to freedom of peaceful assembly and to freedom of association with others, including the right to form and to join trade unions for the protection of his interests [...] No restrictions shall be placed on the exercise of these rights other than such as are prescribed by law and are necessary in a democratic society in the interests of national security or public safety, for the prevention of disorder or crime, for the protection of health or morals or for the protection of the rights and freedoms of others. This article shall not prevent the imposition of lawful restrictions on the exercise of these rights by members of the armed forces, of the police or of the administration of the state."

through bills like this, along with the nationality and borders bill and the elections bill, which would allow the government to revoke citizenship without warning and introduce requirements for voter id respectively, the tories are pushing britain further towards fascism, while the majority of the opposition are complicit in allowing bills such as these to pass.
