It had been about a month since the tension from the bog. Berk had gladly taken the book that was offered to her about what happens in the bog and she ate the information hungrily.
Li was right though, she had nightmares about the horror. Faces appearing out of the water where was dragged down before she was always jolted awake. Berk understood completely why she was sent there, but the faint feeling of resentment still stood in her chest every time she looked at Li for not letting her know what she was walking into.
She had become more withdrawn from everything the more she learned about the world around her. Berk understood what they were fighting this war for, but she was letting it get inside of her head.
Standing in the courtyard she faced one of the mannequins that was used for target practice. It had become her only friend in that month as she moved her staff letting a ring of fire appear under the mannequin before letting it engulf the fabric with flames, but it never lasted long. The flames never stayed.
Letting out a frustrated scream, she finally threw the wooden staff letting it hit a tree as the red ring disappeared and she sat in front of the training dummy.
"I know...I keep getting inside my own head..." she bitched to the dummy like it would speak back. "I gotta breathe, but I know I gotta hang onto that anger to let that fire hit you...fuck..." Laying on her back, she focused on the dummy just staring blankly at it.
Her eyes showed the fatigue the most, the circles under her eyes becoming darker and more apparent. Dark hair that she used to take care of with the resources they had now just stayed tied up so it was out of her way.
"Yeah yeah, I keep having the nightmares, it'll be fine. They'll stop...eventually..."
Her ears twitched as if the dummy was continuing the conversation, "You know damn well I can't tell Li about that! They'll make me stay here and I wanna help!" Her voice sounded like a child whining because she didn't get her way for a moment, "I swear to god if you tell Li I will make sure I incinerate you for every fiber you're worth. You gotta promise..."
