Restless
I keep tossing and turning tonight. I can't stay asleep for more than 30 or 40 minutes. I just took two Benadryl, so hopefully that will help.
I feel really tumblr-deprived, as I had a little malware problem. It was some ridiculous proxy issue where my home page and default search engine were changed to "search-fever.com." Very annoying, and very dangerous. I was not happy.
After multiple attempts and multiple hours of disk scanning, anti-malware scans, and staring at my computer screen in general, I couldn't find anything. I was up against the wall with no hope left. My last option: restore this hard drive to its factory defaults, erasing all files other than the operating system.
Luckily, I still had most of my important files (documents, music, and videos) on my old laptop's hard drive still. So, Matt and I popped the hard drive out of my old Compaq and connected it to my new laptop to begin transferring 94gb of all my shit.
In the meantime, I had found a spare 500gb laptop hard drive that Matt had laying around. My Compaq's hard drive was only a 250, so I was excited to put this one in and double my hard drive space.
Since this 500gb hard drive was completely formatted, it contained absolutely no OS whatsoever. I had to jump through all the hoops of formatting a USB drive to be "bootable" and then install a Linux .iso on the flash drive that my old Compaq could read and boot from, then install on the hard drive. I also wanted to create a new partition on the hard drive that I could install Windows 7 on. Quite a few headaches arose here, and it made up quite a bit of my night.
So, all in all it's been a really productive day for me. I'm still reinstalling programs on both computers, but once I'm all finished, I'll have two computers set up exactly how I want them! But before any of that, I have to get to sleep.
