I saw about how Lucifer won over Duck, and my mind went over the last lesson in s 1. Where Lucifer just force MC if MC refuse to make pact because of what Lucifer said.
I just wonder what was Duck reaction about it? Because it felt like breaching boundaries to me.
Thank you very very much for giving me an excuse to talk about this because I have so many thoughts about how this scene would go between them.
If Duck had refused (she didn't) and Lucifer had forced her into a pact, I honestly don't know how their relationship would recover going forward. I think if he successfully made the argument that hey, Duck had made all their other pacts on false pretenses, that could work by guilting her into forgiving him... not that that would be too healthy, considering it would just put a lot of guilt on Duck and piss off his brothers by making her regret the pacts. (Duck already regrets forcing Mammon into a pact before she understood what it really meant.)
However, my "canon" idea of how their pact scene went...
The Last Pact
Warnings: pushing of consent and boundaries, some kissing, Lucifer being an asshole (accidentally, by misinterpreting numerous signals). I did change the dialogue a bit from the scene.
--------
Lucifer looked up to find Duck closing the door behind them.
Her hair was mussed, probably from lying down with his brothers. She looked tired but happy, and Lucifer found himself sitting up, straightening his coat before Duck turned to see him.
“It sounds like quite the party up in the attic,” he greeted her. “And since my brothers are busy up there, I get to stay here and enjoy the music in peace.”
“What are you listening to?” Duck asked, striding confidently into the study. Their attitude had changed much since they first entered this room months ago. Now they make a beeline for the record player.
“The cursed record from The Tale of the Seven Lords soundtrack, the one you borrowed from me for Leviathan.” Lucifer stood and joined her, crowding in close. Duck raised an eyebrow but didn’t comment.
“The one that makes people... die? If they listen to it?” she asked, her hands moving in rather erratic gestures towards the record.
Lucifer smiled. “I see you remembered the story behind it.” That had been some time ago. Lucifer was able to admit to himself that it made him happy she recalled. “It’s true that all humans involved in its creation died mysteriously. However, that was all a coincidence. There is no curse.”
Duck scoffed, shaking her head but Lucifer stopped the motion with a hand on her cheek. “And even if it was cursed, look who’s at your side. You’re standing with one of the most powerful demons in the Devildom. So you have nothing to worry about, do you?”
“Yes, you’re very strong,” Duck said, and Lucifer decided to ignore the tones of sarcasm in her voice. His hand drops to their shoulder.
“...It was in this very room that I chose you for the exchange program.” Lucifer watched Duck’s expression change to one of genuine interest. He recalled those days like it was a haze - how easily Duck’s arrival split everything into before and after. “When I first welcomed you here, it was all for Diavolo’s plans. I figured so long as you could survive the year without any major incidents, that was all I could ask.”
He did not miss the way Duck’s shoulders slumped at the word survive. Lucifer himself did not like to dwell on his failure. He continued quickly. “But somehow, I managed to find a human that was such a magnet for trouble that it almost defies belief, wouldn’t you say? There were times I thought I’d made a mistake in choosing you.”
For a moment he worried his words might hurt Duck - but they only rolled their eyes. “How about now?”
“What do you think? I’d say you know the answer.” Lucifer offered them his hand. Duck allowed him to lead them towards his desk. He could see that she wanted his answer though. “I made the right choice selecting you. You’ve kept me quite entertained for the past year. In fact, it’s probably the most entertained I’ve been in my whole life.”
His feelings had changed much in the past year. Duck had gone from a threat to a nuisance to someone very important to Lucifer and his brothers. He didn’t understand how she’d done it - only that he was... unsatisfied with ending the year like this.
“So, Duck,” Lucifer began, turning away from her to pour himself a glass of demonus. Duck had never gotten the taste for it, so he did not offer them a drink. “Have you done all you set out to do in the Devildom? No unfinished business? No loose ends?”
“I still haven’t made a pact with you.”
Lucifer smiled while Duck still couldn’t see his face. He took a sip before putting the glass down and turning to her.
“A pact, you say?“ he said slowly, pretending to consider it. “I see. You’ve made pacts with all of my brothers, which just leaves me... Do you really want to make a pact with me? Truly?”
He could see Duck prepare some sarcastic remark, but this was serious. Lucifer was aware he wasn’t exactly someone vulnerable, but this was... important to him.
“I am more than a name to be crossed off a list, Duck. I can’t have you lumping me in with everyone else,” Lucifer said bluntly. He allowed his demon form to show itself, his wings casting a shadow over the human before him. Now he had their attention - they flinched and Lucifer ruffled his feathers.
But they did not run. Duck crossed her arms and looked up at him defiantly.
“You’re not going to run? You’ve certainly got guts, don’t you? It’s something I’ve always found irritating about you.” Duck scowled and Lucifer smiled. “But I find it even more endearing.”
Honestly, Lucifer was proud to see how Duck had grown in her time here. She had grown from a human who seemed to float through life into someone who chased what she wanted. In a way, she had become more selfish. As good an influence as she had been on his brothers... he and his brothers had had their own influence on Duck.
“Let me make something clear. I will not be your possession. You will belong to me.” Lucifer held out his hand, power thrumming in a way he’d never needed before, ready to make a pact. “So, what do you say? Will you make a pact with me, Duck?”
Duck’s face softened. It was an expression he’d seen often with his brothers, but rarely with him. “Yes, Lucifer. I will make a pact with you.”
Their hand was warm in his. Lucifer held it tightly.
“Good. Then it’s done. From now on, you’re mine.” Too late, Lucifer noted the mischievous glint in Duck’s eye, just as the pact formed between them.
“I will be yours, Lucifer. Your master.”
Lucifer nearly laughed at the audacity - he tugged Duck forward, placing one arm around her waist as the bond between them solidified. It was an experience he had never had before - Lucifer could not compare it to anything, but he was certain it could only feel this warm from Duck.
“Is that all your business done?” he asked. He did not remove his hand from her waist.
“There is... one other thing I had to do.” Duck’s confidence faltered. Lucifer squeezed their hand.
“There is?” he prompted.
Duck hesitated. It was a rare sight for them now and it was one Lucifer savoured.
The height difference was enough that Duck’s intentions were obvious. As soon as they stood up straight, their face rising to meet his, he knew - and Lucifer was more than willing to meet them halfway.
Their lips met his softly, Lucifer pressing them closer - his tongue traced their bottom lip. Duck made a soft noise of surprise and Lucifer smiled into their kiss. Even if they did not allow him to deepen the kiss, he would be satisfied with that. For now.
He pulled back, taking in Duck’s pretty blush. It was rare to see her vulnerable these days - her eyes warm and welcoming, hopeful. Lucifer held them closer.
“Duck,” he breathed. “I’ve always known that you wanted to do this. And I know what you’ll want to do next, as well.”
Their expression turned to confusion - interesting, Lucifer had not expected them to be quite so naive, not with a pact with Asmo. Still he allowed them a bit of distance, only keeping a hold of their hand and stepping back.
“We’re heading straight to my room. You’re going to spend the last night in the Devildom with me... all night long, until the break of dawn.” He tucked one lock of hair behind her ear. “I’m not letting anyone else have you now.”
But something was wrong. Duck did not appear happy - not even shy, which might have made sense. That warm expression was now cold and shuttered to him. Duck pulled her hand from his and stepped away. The space between them felt strangely large.
“I... I promised the others I’d get back to the attic.” Duck backed away to the door and Lucifer did not follow.
“I see,” was all he could say.
“You could... you could join us?” Duck offered. She had the doorknob in one hand, her back to the paneling. She looked more scared than she had the entire evening.
“I have,” Lucifer cleared his throat. “I have work to complete. I may join you later, if I have time. Perhaps.”
“Right, sure. I’ll just. Um. I’ll see you up there. Or tomorrow. Or... night!” Duck fled the room. The door swung shut behind her and Lucifer listened to her footsteps hurry upstairs.
Lucifer picked up his drink and took a swig. The room felt empty in their wake.
