Tuesday, September 11: Sinner, “Shout!”
“Shout!” was a mindless but fun semi-anthem, which was actually more than one would hope for from a Sinner tune, especially during their early years. Mat Sinner apparently considered Touch of Sin one of his stronger records from the Noise years, at least from a composition perspective, since he ultimately re-recorded many of its tracks (including “Shout!”) nearly 30 years later with his latest version of Sinner as Touch of Sin 2, though the original was every bit as bushleague and meat-headed as pretty much every other Sinner record ever. In any event, “Shout!” at least had a sprightlier guitar attack courtesy of SG Stoner and ex-Accept axeman Hermann Frank (who left in fairly short order), as well as less grating vocals from Mat. The song was a more accessible take on the power metal being birthed in Germany at the time, reflecting Mat Sinner’s AOR and Thin Lizzy inclinations while also largely fitting the standard template of a Noise Records act. And because of that, it felt much less laborious than the vast majority of Sinner’s material.
