He thinks about it endlessly , what they have become over these months and while they were apart for the last six months that did not change much now . Not what was between them , this companionship that went further than just escorting , keeping him safe . He would call them friends and good enough ones to return the calls he knows he would miss .

❝ I care about you too , I want us to get out together . Who else will keep me out of trouble , keep us on the right path ? ❞

Bitter attempts in lightening this deep cutting moment between them . She was really willing to lay down her LIFE so he would survive ? It reminds him of — no one , never mind because that was THEN and this is now . This time , it was going to be different .

❝ We have known each other for such a short amount of time , I wondered about you a lot when we were detained . And now ? The end is coming up , and I am ready for it but you fought hard for me for more than just about the good of the world . But for me , I will never forget it , or you . Do you know that ? ❞

index pushes sunglasses further up her nose as head tilts left and right to check if any car is coming her direction, street crossed in such a rush one might believe someone is chasing her - a reflex from spending way too much time actually being chased by things, perhaps claire should consider a vacation... in fact the beaming smile on her lips is the only detail needed to tell that this small break from responsibilities is more than welcomed. hand waves up to flag sherry when the redhead spots her, arms already opening to welcome the younger woman into a hug.

a surprised expression colors features - sure claire had been a bit more on the busy side than usual, but there's nothing that would ever make her miss their monthly meetings. not when she's spent half decade pleading a random guy to let her see sherry more just to be met with a door shut right on her face.

"'course i did, i even got the name of a new coffee shop we could try," hand reaches into pocket of her jacket as voice trails, phone in sight to check the note written on it so she wouldn't forget. "wait, is this because of what we talked about?" a pause and claire looks up to the blonde - she did put her foot down about the becoming an agent situation, but the redhead also knows she can't do much about it to make sherry change her mind. "you know i'm not angry, right? i was just worried."

“hm?” the redhead had been in the process of typing up a report on the plane ride back to the states when sherry pointed out the scars that decorated the top of his hand. they’re faint but still noticeable under some circumstances, steve tend to forget that they were there to be honest but the redhead can faintly recollect how he got it.

“cat, i think.” he stared down at the scars, his brows furrowed as he thought a little bit harder. “this was before everything else—" everything else being that his body can heal in a matter of seconds if he put in the effort. "—but i think i was like… 8ish, i found a cat who just had kittens and i was dumb enough to try and touch.” 

that little incident turned him off cats for a while but nowadays he knows when to keep his distance from animals. “anyways, definitely learned my lesson after that. i'll take on a bioweapon any day over a mama cat."

“Hey, Jake…” Sherry approaches him with a timid smile. “I don’t know if you’re… well…”

Is this too forward? Part of her doesn’t care—it doesn’t have to be a date if he doesn’t want it to be one. She’s more than happy just hanging out with him as friends.

“I was just wondering if you’d like to go to the movies with me tonight?” But just so he knows what her own intentions are, she adds, “you know, considering it’s Valentine’s Day and all. I figured it would be nice.” If not the movies, and if he’d prefer something more private, they could also go to her place instead and watch a movie there. His pick, even.

❝ That sounds like fun , if only there were good movies playing . ❞

Sherry had been the one to take him to his first movie theatre and he did have fun there . The big screen and rows of seats , it was really nice then being around strangers in a civilian setting with no monsters or anything of the likes . But for today , they deserved something a bit more personal , seeing what they wanted and it not be overpriced .

❝ You got movies at your place ? I would really like to watch something with you , and have the evening to ourselves , laugh and talk all we want . Can we do that ? ❞

last thing claire wants to do is hover on sherry like the stereotypical helicopter mom from those cheesy movies - but it's been months. no calls, no texts, no contact at all. it obviously made her worry, especially knowing the less than ideal conditions under which the younger woman was able to work. so claire takes her time into the hug, eyes closed as she basks in the moment - her kid is back home safe.

@tougherthanilook : nothing could ever take me away from you.

a shudder falls past lips hearing sherry's voice, claire refusing to break the hug just yet simply because otherwise she would have to make peace with the fact that the blonde is not a child anymore - could probably read her better than anyone else even with time and life separating them every now and then. "yeah, i know." she agrees, stifled laugh as she pulls away, hands gently cupping the other's cheeks. "doesn't mean i'll get any less worried about you."

“Jake.” Sherry rests a hand on his shoulder. “It’s over.”

The test did not bother Jake all that much , blood testings that the professionals and doctors handle completely . He was just the donor , the ONLY one in this world that can stop this arms race of who can destroy the world the fastest and cruelest .

Ten tubes of blood later and he was given a cotton ball and band aid for his arm . It was all done , they had enough to make another Jake as if one was not enough for this world . He squeezes his hand into a fist and feels a little weak in the arm but he was fine , and the world was going to be too . He turns his head up to Sherry when she lays her hand on him , adventure over and done with . A smile saying this was not a big deal for him , saving the world was a WEEKLY thing at this point .

❝ Hey , right back at you . If it was not for you chasing me down , things would be looking different right now . ❞

Enough of the sappy moment now . Slapping his hands together in a clap before rubbing them together .

❝ So ... about the fifty million ? ❞

It all went so wonderfully wrong , even from where he LURKED in the shadows , everything on his end was left leveled and crumbled . The reality was he thought Sherry could understand that , what the AGENDA actually was . Now she is all grown up however , too much time had passed to sort out the details of the reality that never came to be , ABANDONED not by choice but by the carnage and RAGE her father left in his wake . How foolish of him , of both her parents and even foolish of himself that they thought they could simply say goodbye and move on .

It was only natural she would want to ask them about it , IF SHE COULD , in the bitter way she seen it . Perhaps , asking Wesker would be the closest SLIVER OF CLOSURE SHE COULD GET , if she chooses to see it in that light .

❝ It was different for us , at the time we did not know we were working on an old man's dying dream of reaching immortality . But that we were going to make the world better , where no one would face death ever again . They did it FOR you , they tried getting out FOR YOU . ❞

Oh , what was the point in this visit anyways ? Maybe he was hoping her inner child could hear him , when she could have seen it the way they did . Only now that little girl may only feel HATRED and CONTEMPT towards his attempts in proving she was loved back then with no evidence other than HE was there .

❝ You will understand when I am dead . ❞
