Imagine waking up at around 4am to a phone call. Blinking sleep from your eyes, you answer your phone quickly, concerned that someone is injured. Luckily, that's not the case. "Hey love," Niall's raspy voice cuts through your sleepiness, and you stare up at the ceiling, just listening to him. "Didn't think you'd wake up. Just wanted to hear your voice, even if it was just a voicemail." That sent a pang through your heart. The two of you had specifically customized your voicemail box. That way, if he called and you didn't answer, he would hear you, and vice versa. It's the little things. "Got me worried there for a second, Ni," you whisper, eyes closing as you focus on the presence of your boyfriend on the phone. "No one calls really except for emergencies at 4am." Niall lets out a tired sigh. "I know, I'm sorry I worried ya. I really didn't think ya would answer. Just...missin' you a lot right now, is all." A heavy weight settles on your chest. "I'm missing you too, baby." He must have just gotten back from a show or something. This tour had been harder on both of you. "More than you know." A weary chuckle sounds on the line. "Can't wait to get home to ya. Just gonna let in bed with ya allllllllll day." A smile lifts your own tired lips. "Sounds like a perfect plan." It's quiet, until Niall brokenly whispers your name. "Fuck, baby, I miss ya so much. I don't know how much more I can take bein' without ya." Niall isn't really a crier, but he sounds close; his breaths are heavy and a bit sporadic, his voice is thick. It breaks your fucking heart. "Maybe this weekend I can come see you wherever you are for a few days. Fly out Friday evening, take Monday off." You rarely take work off, but you're willing to here. It's obvious he needs you. "Would ya...would ya really? I know ya don't like to skip work-" "Niall. You're worth it." There's a sort of breathless silence on the line, before a tired, elated giggle breaks out. "Okay, okay. I'll fly ya out darlin', this weekend, yeah?" "Yeah." You agree softly. It doesn't matter that you have to go to work in about three hours. It doesn't matter that you're exhausted, having just been abruptly woken from a deep sleep. What matters is that Niall is happy, and you're together. "Yeah, babe, I'll be coming for you." His cheeky response: "sounds like a deal, darlin'." You nearly hang up on him then and there. Niall's a child like that. "Shut up," you mumble to him, rolling your eyes even though he can't see it. Niall laughs again, so it's worth it. Now that you have plans, he's at ease, like a weight has been lifted off of him. One definitely has lifted from you. "I'll let ya go back to sleep now, darlin'. Goodnight." "Goodnight, Niall. I love you."
