HARAM - “Fear of the Arabic Language”

Led by vocalist Nader Haram, the Brooklyn hardcore-punk band HARAM have brought provocative questions into the intensity of the pit over the years through EPs like 2017′s بس ربحت, خسرت (When You Have Won, You Have Lost) and last year’s (وين كنيت بي ١١/٩؟? (Where Were You on 9/11?) in which Haram -- a Lebanese-American -- confronts uncomfortable socio-political dialogues from his own perspective of being Middle Eastern in an country where so much is misinterpreted about his culture.

They’ve contributed the latest single to Adult Swim’s Singles series entitled “Fear of the Arabic Language”. Here, the band explores wider tunnels in their bulldozing, showing that HARAM’s explorations are only just beginning to evolve toward bolder directions. Regardless of your aptitude in understanding the words shouted from Haram’s tongue, the track ultimately forces listeners into the same zone. The collective comfort and discomfort are part of the same unrest.
