Toyconvict: I mean you didn’t have to answer that fast.
When @laplace-aeiou released a teaser of the Rise Up comic, the panel was good enough that I did an analysis. To be clear, this is NOT an analysis of the comic as a whole, and I wrote this BEFORE the rest of the comic was released. With that context in mind, here it is:
Ok so first off; Even though the Tony on the left takes up a good portion of the page, he obviously is not drawn to be as imposing as blood falcon, which says something about how he views himself: even if he's a major character, he doesn't FEEL like he is. He doesn't feel like he can do anything.
Second off, he's right next to and right behind blood falcon. That combined with how he has that black background for a portion of it, as well as his expression, it's clear that he's afraid to become blood. He's afraid of becoming evil again. But like I said earlier, he's not as imposing. He's not as major. He can't escape the fear of becoming blood.
Speaking of, the background is obviously what I refer to as the green screen stage. He's not only worried about becoming Blood Falcon, he's of course afraid that he'll die if goes up against him. Not only that, if you combine that with the previous thing, you can infer that he also thinks that dying to blood falcon might be as bad as becoming evil again. Because of the first thing. Because he hasn't done much. Because he hasn't affected much. Because Vincent died to Blood. Because if he can't do anything, Vincent's death turning him into Tony was for nothing. Because he doesn't want Vincent to have died in Vain.
But look at that expression. He's still worried. He's still unsure. Him trying to fight Blood Falcon could just make him die, which means that Vincent's death would be in vain. But it would also be in vain if he doesn't affect anything. So he's undecided. He doesn't know what to do. And then those eyes vanish. Because in that moment during Everest, he doesn't think about it. He doesn't worry about it. He forgets the rest of this analysis. He just protects Naomi, without a second thought. On the right side, it seems like the light is coming from Tony. I mean it's probably just the background but it's metaphorically coming from Tony. This is in contrast to the darkness on the left side. Because him protecting Naomi is how he proves he won't turn into blood falcon. No matter what happened before, in that moment, without thinking, he proves to everyone and to himself that he's not a horrible person. He's not evil anymore. And him protecting Naomi ultimately does pay off. Because going back to earlier, he does die, and he does become a falcon, even if he's not Blood Falcon. But he takes it in stride. He casts aside his fears. He'll protect Naomi. He'll make sure Vincent's death wasn't in vain. He'll finally move forward. He's not trapped anymore.
