Pyrare is the first ever Caretaker, caring for the Hero Gold. Pyrare has shown no romantic or sexual attraction to anyone, outside of whomever was Barracuda's mother. Outside of that, it seems he's fallen out of the dating world, choosing his role as Caretaker over relationships. With this in mind, I believe Pyrare to be AroAce
Can't say I blame him, with how bad the corruption is and how Barracuda turned out...
A little something more on that rewrite I mentioned. I don't have much on the main plot yet because ummmmm I have a Dub bias. sorry
I kind of freeformed this so hopefully it's comprehensible, let me know what you think if you can lmao I have no idea what I'm doing
Plain text under cut !!
SUPER rough timeline. pre-corruption as a whole
Scalene[Pyrare's wife]'s death is a catalyst
After Scalene succumbs to her illness Pyrare is inconsolable. Obviously.
Life goes on and whatever but Pyrare is still MISERABLE so one day he goes down to the Golden Tree of Life in hopes of at least finding some solace in prayer. So the Tree is like ummm okay. It's dangerous to go alone. Take this. And then it makes a whole child? He has Scalene's eye.
Pyrare's obviously absolutely flibbertibbled and he's like oh my god. okay.
So he goes home with his ugly ass son and he cries a little bit because he really looks just like his mother. He thought it would help knowing that a part of her lived on in their son but like it kind of didn't. Everytime he looked at his own child he just saw her and remembered that she was gone forever and it just kind of made him even MORE miserable. Pyrare tried really really hard to give Barracuda a good childhood but his grief consumed him so completely that he could barely even get out of bed in the morning. He was so tunnel visioned on what could have been if Scalene was still alive that he sort of just forgot to be there for his son.
Anyways several years later Dub shows up to Paradise on Ketches. He's been hopping from land to land for YEARS trying to find a safe place for a monster like him and that search eventually led him to Paradise. He spends a few days just wandering, exploring by day and shacking up in whatever nooks and crannies he could find by night. Eventually he comes across the mountain cove and he's like oh okay it's late anyways I'll just sit in here until the sun comes back up. Aaand Barracuda's also in there because it's where his dad took him to visit his late mother when he was little
ANYWAYS in present day I think Pyrare at least has the energy to go out and do things like normal again and he tries to be there for Barracuda now even if he's very tired but like. It's been years. The damage is done. Pyrare cares about his son, and Barracuda cares about his father, but it's been years. They get along, but it's strained. They love each other the way a family should, but it'll never erase the years that Barracuda spent teaching himself how to live when his father wanted to die.
But anyways. Take a shot every time I say anyways. UMMM Dub and Barracuda cross paths and Dub's like oh hey there I didn't think anyone else would be in this mysterious ass mountain and Barracuda's like. umm. okay. like he's so deflective and aloof to everything because he spent so long raising himself and desensetizing himself to the world so when Dub comes around it starts out the same as if anyone else wandered into the cove that night. In the morning Dub makes his way out to start wandering again like wow that guy was weird. but anyways eventually he finds his way to a small town on the foothills of a different mountain some ways away from the cove and comes across a little market street. Dub goes around to see if he can get some decent food but unfortunately he is Dirt Broke and only acquires like,,, one apple. Pyrare bumps into him when he turns around because he's LARGE and Dub is SMALL and Dub was just turning around and didn't have time to react and Pyrare's old ass wasn't watching where he was going. But he's nice and stuff so he's like oh my goodness gracious i am so sorry small child i did not see you there !! and he notices Dub's One Apple and he's like oh my goodness well you should certainly eat more than One Apple. and Dub's like ummm yeah sorry I don't have any money. so Pyrare walks him around and buys him like a whole burlap sack full of fruits and veggies and invites him to stay at his home for a while after Dub tells him his long tragic backstory an stuff.
So when they get there. Barracuda is there because he's Pyrare's son and so like. he lives there. and Dub's like ohh omg it's you and Barracuda's like . fuuuuck. this shit again. But anyways Dub gets to rest up and eat and stuff and Pyrare's so nice and he's like okay you can stay as long as you want. So Dub continues to like wander around Paradise and whatnot but you know. He has a place to go now. He's not certain that Barracuda is very fond of him but he tries his best anyways. Every day Barracuda goes out to visit the mountain cove and Dub checks up on him frequently. Barracuda pushes him away for ages but one day I guess he feels nice and he lets Dub sit next to him on the cliff. Dub's like wow this is so beautiful. and Barracuda caves and finally spills about the origin of the place and about how Pyrare wasn't the greatest at being there during his younger years and how he knows he's trying but he still wishes his mom was alive even if he never got to meet her in the first place. and Dub's like. oh . shit. the day proceeds like normal but from then on Barracuda seems a little more okay with having Dub around.
Ummm most things proceed as normal but ONE DAYY ! After Dub comes back from his wandering for the day UH OH ! UH OH ! He gets followed to town by one of them Tree Monsters and the thing is initially just curious but when the townsfolk catch sight of it . yk. it's giant and kind of freaky so the immediate response is to panic. Said panic startles the monster and it kind of sort of accidentally absolutely DECIMATES a good portion of the town. After the thing leaves and everyone regroups the blame is IMMEDIATELY turned to Dub because he brought the monster to town, intentionally or not. Barracuda and Pyrare jump in to defend him but then a few folks are kind of like… wait a second you guys are ALL monsters. How do we know you weren't all PLANNING to bring that wretched beast into our town. We never should have trusted you monsters etc etc. This builds to the point where practically everyone agrees and Pyrare and Barracuda and Dub are all basically driven out of town.
The three go into hiding in the woods. Pyrare is basically at the lowest he's ever been. He's so devastated about finding out what the townsfolk he used to be so close with really saw him for and gets so caught up in trying to figure out a solution right off the bat that he loses himself in frantic thought and doesn't notice what's going on with Dub and Barracuda. Barracuda is pissed about losing his home but insists that he saw this coming, while Dub is FUMING. Barracuda makes some remark about how he didn't know Dub was capable of being so mad, which prompts Dub to finally confide in him too. Dub's first memories were of the fading faces of his parents as they left him hidden in a cluster of bushes and ran. Terrible shapes just like the townsfolk pursued them, hunted them; because they were monsters. They didn't find Dub. So he just kind of grew up out there in the wild. He was far too young to understand what had happened to his parents, but he knew not to let himself be seen. He left as soon as the opportunity arose, traveling from place to place in search of somewhere safe. He thought he'd found that in Paradise, but as soon as he felt at home, it was only ripped away again— because he was a monster. and it INFURIATED him.
Things tame down eventually and the three settle into the woods. Pyrare thinks things are finally starting to look up. Dub and Barracuda begin devising a plan for revenge.
“I cannot change the mistakes of my past. I am partly responsible for how things ended up. But, that does not mean I cannot try and change things now.”
