Gas based power project cancelled in Tripura: TPGL withdraws Baramura PPP plan
Tripura Power Generation Ltd has abruptly cancelled its Expression of Interest for an 84 MW Baramura combined-cycle plant, a key step in Gas based power projects within the Northeast. The notice, dated 23 September 2025, ends the PPP tender before pre- qualification.
The cancelled scheme proposed replacing two 21 MW open-cycle units with an 84 MW combined-cycle gas turbine setup including HRSG and steam turbine sections. TPGL’s decision leaves no timeline for reissue.
This setback halts Tripura’s move toward efficient gas-fired generation and highlights difficulty balancing fuel linkage, tariff norms, and private-sector participation. Observers note the loss of early PPP momentum in state gas-based power projects, though EPC re- Bidding remains possible,Tripura Power Project, Gas Power, TPGL, Baramura Project, Power Sector India, Energy India, Infrastructure India.
