Why we should always have a majority decision aka how I learnt to love strawpoll.

One thing that tends to be true at TPPY- we depend on a bunch of people making a decision instead of just one leader. Even if someone suggest a decision, its everyone's choice whether to follow that option or make a better one.

Yet, there's been a fair bit of one person deciding on names recently, sometimes naming pokemon after themselves and sometimes just making their own decision without waiting for input from the other players, or even just telling them that the decision's been made and it doesn't matter.

I don't know about everyone else, but I think this goes against everything we do best. Everything we do in democracy is decided by a majority, when the majority is cut out in favour of just one persons choice, then we aren't really playing anymore. We're just observing.

This happens when people decide to name pokemon after themselves- because when one person wants a pokemon named after themselves, often it's only them that wants that to happen, everyone else either has different ideas or wants to name it after themselves (Basically, think the scene in Pirates of the Caribbean, where they have to vote for a Pirate King and everyone tends to vote for themselves so they never end up electing anyone. Do we really need this at TPPY?)

This also shows a disregard for the history of the stream, and I guess its partially our fault- the documents and records aren't always easy to find or access and we're got very little lore or similar for people to reference, which is why I'll explain it here (note- some of this is secondhand because I only joined later in the yellow run) Basically, people wanted pokemon to be named after them. The mods opposed this because they thought it would create a pecking order and cause conflict among the users, passing a rule of sorts that naming pokemon after yourself wouldn't happen. This rule relaxed a bit over time, and now people seem to have forgotten there was a time where you couldn't name pokemon after yourself.

One of the few exceptions are if people want to name pokemon after you, as can be seen with mods. Everyone wanted to name legendary pokemon after mods because they do a good job and are active members (When they are anyway...) The intent is to reward them. If you get to that point where people want to name pokemon after you, then be proud! Not everyone gets that much respect from their communities, good on you :) (This could be similar to when Captain Sparrow gave his vote to Elizabeth, to continue the simile further)

But enough rambling- how can we make a majority decision? Well we can get examples of names in chat, then use them to create a strawpoll and direct people to vote in it, holding while a decision is made if necessary . This gives everyone a chance to get their say in and will leave most people happy, as the majority vote would get inputted (For example, the whole Blaze and Torchic situation from our emerald run, some people weren't happy, but many were and were willing to help get the right pokemon AND the right name :D )

I'm sure this sounds obvious to a lot of people- but it isn't to enough. we can work together to make TPPY work, but if we can't or don't work together... then we may as well be in anarchy really.

A few little tidbits I came across when I was playing Y last night.

If you say Lysandre was killin people just for the giggles ill dropkick you in the THROAT OKAY...

Amazing still is these arent even the only ones. There are LOTS of NPCs throughout the entire KALOS REGION that express nothing but love and gratitude for Lysandre, and they arent even part of Team Flare!!

So here is your daily reminder that Lysandre WAS  a good person at one point, he...just got pushed off the edge and he couldnt come back.

Also i did the thing with lys and then battled the prof again and y goes back today so BOO i dont get to see the parade... :<
