Meekrats and BrainBop
My district has tech aides instead of actual teachers in our computer labs. This means they are not certified, can literally be anyone off the street and don't actually have to have any kind of tech background. Obviously this means we get the cream of the crop. Our first week of lab I didn't know what to expect so I had my kids bring their writing journal so they could type the paragraph they'd created about meerkats. Tech aide took over and had them googling "meekrats" and saying it that way for most of the class despite my and my students trying to help him out. Come on, man! This week at our staff meeting, he presented on "BrainBop" since our district just purchased it. In a room full of educators, he continued to mispronounce it. In addition to him yelling at my kids when they don't know how to do something instead of actually teaching them and allowing them to practice, I'm not sure how many mispronounciations I'll be able to handle. At my other school, I ran my whole lab time for my class unless she had something to teach. Supposedly there's an actual curriculum but other than opening Word to type their name and school, I've seen nothing. But here, Meekrats and BrainBop it is..
