Most adults nationally say they have gotten at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, and few say they haven’t but want to do so right away,
Misinformation kills.
54% of the public believes one or more false myths about the COVID-19 vaccines. Among unvaccinated adults, 67% are still clinging to one or more of these falsehoods. Of those who say they will "definitely not" get the vaccine, fully 81%--that's more than four out of five refusers--believe or are unsure about at least one common vaccine myth. These include:
24% of the public (36% of unvaccinated adults) either wrongly believe that the vaccines themselves cause COVID or aren't sure.
21% of the public (29% of unvaccinated adults) either wrongly believe that the vaccines cause infertility or don’t know.
21% of the public either wrongly believe that the vaccines contain fetal cells or don't know whether that's true.
21% of the public either wrongly believe that you should not get vaccinated if you have had COVID or don't know.
20% of the public wrongly believes that it is either probably or definitely true that "The U.S. government is using the COVID-19 vaccine to microchip the population," and another 14% isn't sure.
17% of the public either wrongly believe that the vaccines change your DNA or don't know.
And it's still largely political:
31% of Republicans either wrongly believe the vaccines cause infertility or don't know.
34% of Republicans either wrongly believe the vaccines contain fetal cells or are not sure whether they do.
"The share of Republicans who say they will 'definitely not' get vaccinated decreased ... to 20% in April but remains substantially larger than the share among Democrats [4%] or independents [13%].
White Evangelical Christians are the only other demographic of which 20% will "definitely not" get vaccinated. No other demographic has a higher refusal rate than these two.
When those who say they will 'definitely not' get vaccinated are asked if there is anything that might change their mind, the answer is a resounding 'no'."
