It wasn’t necessarily the message she wanted to find as she walked the halls of the ship, but it was bound to happen sooner or later. She was unwed, and her status as a Jedi wasn’t going to get them in the door either. Plan B was simple, but not something she was going to just… do over a commlink. As such, she shot off a message to her commander and walked the rest of the way to her rooms.
“You wanted to see me, General?” Spades walked in, helmet tucked under one arm. With a gesture from her, he set it on the table and stood before her.
“Bit of a problem with the new mission, I’m afraid, and I need your help to move it along.”
“The unmarried bit, yes? None of the other officers onboard are skilled enough to sit at the table, and we would run into the same problems even if your padawan was here.” He hummed, still settled just inside the door at parade rest.
“The unmarried bit,” she swallowed, “can be fixed easily, don’t you think?” His shoulders tensed the tiniest bit under all his armor, and he said nothing, eyes locked on her. “Marry me, Commander?”
Silence.
She tried to smile, “Just for the course of the mission, mind you. After all is said and done, you’ll be free of me once again.”
His face was red, and the details of her montrals interested him greatly, if the way he refused to look at her but also would not look away was any indication. He began undoing his gauntlets with shaking hands.
“Spades?” She tried, lowering her head a little to try and get him to meet her eyes, “Spades? Look at me.”
He took a sharp breath, “One second, sir.”
The shift in formalities brought her up, he never called her that in her rooms, it’s why she’d chosen here to have the conversation to begin with. “Spades…”
Spades took one of her arms and clipped a gauntlet over her arm wraps, throwing the small gauntlet plates that sat over his hands to the table next to his helmet. He finally spoke as he reached for her other arm. “It’s tradition, sir. Even if it’s just for show,” she rested her armored arm on his shoulder as he reached for the other, clipping it in place without looking at her, “Please…”
Her Commander, her darling Commander, he truly wouldn’t refuse her anything, would he? So she accepted the tokens for what they were, temporary physical manifestations of their bond, and willed herself not to wish for more.
…………
This one was a fun one, mainly because I didn’t really have a dedicated ship among my OCs to fill the prompt with. Desha and Spades are very much Parent Coded for them all, and thus fell naturally here. I am a massive sucker for clones exchanging armor as a form of dedication to each other, a literal promise to protect them. Desha will later get a second set, so when they trade “for the mission” it’s “more convincing” and one day they just, don’t trade back.
Prompts from the lovely folk over at @swfandomevents! Bingo card under the cut. I fell a little behind so there will be many more here soon!
