i low-key dislike soulmate trope and i already knew i wont be too attached (ive already decided not to watch all povs like i was doing for previous two series)
i think i will stay away from fandom tho, i already feel unwell for several reasons
YEP big handshake emoji moment rn. soulmate trope is so unbearably amatonormative and aphobic all of the time and also this fandom has the worst double standard ever about shipping.
(quick note just in case: amatonormativity = the societal expectation that romance is the norm and anything else is an exception, basically. often goes hand in hand with but is not exclusive to aphobia.)
but yeah, we have already decided that we are refusing to call the double life pairs soulmates, they're gonna be soul pairs unless/until we come up w smth better here. ***thx to solar for suggesting "lifelink", gonna use that instead! it's just like - yeah okay the concept would be really fun if everyone wasn't so unbearably amatonormative about all of it. we were really really hoping there would be a pair that their dynamic is already well established as non romantic, like one of the universally agreed upon sibling duos, and I guess we sort of got that in Scott + Pearl but that probably isn't enough to make the fandom address the problem it has with amatonormativity. oh well.
