[Pfft I can't believe you didn't talk about dear Wes in the polyship thing. For shame madam.]
[I can’t believe I have to remind you but YOU HAVE ALMOST TWENTY MUSES FRIEND. THAT IS A LOT OF MUSES. :-p
But seriously, I did think about Wes, then decided I needed more time to think through his dynamic with people, because he is a precious, multi-layered onion of a muse. Like, he and Eilidh clearly have a certain kind of chemistry, and she wants him to be happy and would absolutely encourage his romantic endeavors. However, Wes has that same thing Ames does, that “keeping this emotional shit to myself and shoving it down under ridiculous amounts of self-control and self-loathing” thing. Which makes him hard to ship. He needs people with a kind of quiet persistence, but also vulnerability. I think one thing that can draw Wes out is the sense that somebody needs him, that he can help. He needs that.
Maybe that could happen with Truck, maybe not? It kind of falls into the same-as-always problem with Truck, that he doesn’t pursue relationships. But he trusts Wes in a way he doesn’t trust most people, and that matters. And Wes is in a position to understand Truck’s anxieties in a way most people aren’t. They’d just need a spark or push to get them past platonic (Dom, maybe? Another one who Doesn’t Talk about the difficult things in his past).
But you know who else he might have a good dynamic with? Let’s talk about Wes and Jason, shall we? I bet if they ever fought, it would be venemous, because they can be sharp when they want to be, Jason moreso than Wes, but Wes is capable of it, too. And they isolate themselves, and they blame themselves. And they’ve lost brothers who meant more to them than anything else in the world. ~enter Eilidh~ :-p Seriously, though, she’s one of the few people who knows about James, and if she eventually learns about Anthony, I think she’d want to maneuver these two together. She’d probably fuck it up, but god. She knows she can’t fully understand what they’ve been through, but she knows that just the thought of losing Cal terrifies her, and she’d want them to see they aren’t alone in trying to survive something it’s impossible to really recover from.
They would never even need to sleep together. Neither of them has a strong interest in that sort of thing, and Wes is always welcome in Eilidh’s bed if he wants. It’s funny, as much as she loves sex and wants her friends to have lots of good sex, I think she’d be proud of herself if she managed to get Wes and Jason to be friends, regardless of whether they’re ever physically intimate. It’s a sign of her own growth, really, her growing ability to recognize what people need and the value of their boundaries and to think selflessly about how to make them happier.
So, yeah, there’s a reason I didn’t try to tackle Wes earlier :-p]
