A brief conversation over the telephone with his family, which included a 'forced positive message'.
That's the last thing a previously fit and healthy trainee doctor can remember before he was placed on a ventilator for six days with Covid-19.
Dr Shanath Ramachandran, 26, went on to spend a further two days on a critical care unit, ahead of six weeks of recovery at his parents' house.
At first he could only walk 100 metres.
Now he's running up to four miles a day.
Wythenshawe Hospital saved the young doctor's life and he's now spoken out about his experience, urging the public to continue to be wary.
He warned that even those who were previously fit and healthy can face a long road to recovery.
Dr Ramachandran first began feeling unwell on April 5 following a busy week treating patients, and was hospitalised himself a week later.
In an interview with the journal Anaesthesia Reports, he said he knew about the risks of Covid-19, but felt reassured because of his age and the fact he had no underlying health conditions.
