trainerebonyfox a réagi à votre billet “Nanowrimo Day 3”
You can do it! Sounds like an interesting plot.
Aw, thanks a bunch sweetheart! Word sprinting is the way to make me write, it seems!
I’m planning on catching up this weekend, but I’m laughing rn because my plot is a mess. It was supposed to be all about 4-year-old Sasha growing up with his best friend Luke, but now the dude decided to become a teacher, Luke has probably pulled a Bruce Banner and gone to find himself in Calcutta, while those three kids showed up out of nowhere because???
There’s probably gonna be some time-skipping in there, because it feels like I’m trying to fit a trilogy in one month atm :P
I don't know if you read the tags in that post you liked, but I guess you'll get a fun fact from me whether you like it or not. Did you know, that there are such things as white black bears? They have fully white fur and they're not albino. It's a color phase caused by genetic mutation, and they're a subspecies of black bear.
Oh my god
Honestly someone needs to revise that species name because when I read white black bear I just thought of a bear with white and black splotches like a cow or smth
*Waves* I’m the Tundra anon from yesterday. I hope you don’t mind me sending this through the submit box because I get the feeling that it might end up being too long for the ask box. I also just woke up about 30 minutes ago so if anything is confusing/wrong I apologize in advance.
(Also I know that Tundras aren’t supposed to be super smart but I’m going to say that they have at least average intelligence.)
Reasons why Tundras are actually Icewarden’s perfect children:
1. Having fluff plus being plant eaters.
Very basic things. Tundras are obviously very furry dragons. They are also plant eaters. This may not seem very important, but it enables them to live in almost any environment. The few places they can’t live are the Viridian Labyrinth (Tundras here most likely shave portions of their summer coat, but lack of plant matter wouldn’t be a problem.) the Ashfall Waste (One of the few places Tundras can’t live.) and the shifting expanse (Again, shaved Tundras. And I’m sure that any lightning tundra is capable of creating farms.), Tundras are able to adapt and live in almost any environment, so they are not limited to just their native homeland, like Coatls. This lets them live in almost any environment.
2. They’re natural burrowers.
Tundras are known to create huge, maze like burrows. It’s very likely that a tundra could easily find their way around by smell, but for other dragons it would almost be impossible to leave once you enter a burrow without the help of a tundra. Any clan a tundra joins will most likely encourage the building of these burrows. A group of tundras could turn a familiar lair into a confusing labyrinth very quickly, if they wished to.
3. They have short memories, but can remember certain things about a dragon based on their smell.
The Icewarden is a collector. But that doesn’t mean he isn’t selective in what he collects. He doesn’t care about a dragon’s name, or personality. The Icewarden wants to preserve the hundreds of years of war that can go on between dragons, the unbreakable bonds of friendship that can be recognized years later, the love between a family- the Icewarden covets the things you can’t collect. So he created the tundra. Why waste time remembering all the little details about a dragon, when you can instead instantly recall that said dragon did you harm. It doesn’t matter what they did. Tundras have strong olfactory memory, which allows them to remember certain things about a dragon. Tundras don’t need the details about you, they want the things that run deeper.
(I’m sorry, that was probably the most confusing/wrong part of this whole post.)
4. Very friendly by nature
Let’s pretend you’re a lonely dragon wandering the Southern Icefields for some reason. You’re cold, hungry and miserable. Suddenly, you meet a Tundra dragon. They are kind to you. They keep you warm with their thick coat of fur. They teach you where to find the plants that are growing in the wasteland. They listen to what you have to say and stay by your side. Finally, they offer to bring you back to their lair, to become a permanent member of their clan. You accept. Why keep traveling when you could stay with a friend and be warm, well fed, and safe for the rest of your life? When they bring you to their lair, it’s a massive underground system of caves, having existed for many hundreds of years. There, you meet other dragons like yourself, as well as the rest of the ice tundras that are part of the clan. The other dragons tell you that they haven’t been allowed to leave at night, and the tundras aren’t very keen on letting you leave at day. It’s for your safety, they claim. You believe them, because they’re tundras, right? They’re kind dragons. One day, when a tundra asks you to help them expand, you jump right in. It’s the least you can do to help repay your friends. You notice that none of the tundras actually help you build the tunnels, but when you inquire about it they just claim that the “others are busy right now.”. You ignore it, never mind that you don’t think you’ll ever be able to find your way out of the tunnels now… And when one day a tundra claims that a dragon “Smells like an enemy” the entire clan pounces, killing the dragon instantly.
Your captor can be your best friend.
So in my opinion, tundras don’t necessarily need a replacement breed, but a companion breed. The tundras earn the trust of other dragons, and can recall and collect the things the Icewarden wants, the bonds of other dragons. Now, they just need a breed that can keep those things under lock and key.
Okay, that was really long. I’m sorry if you actually read all that, I don’t think I made my points very well. Sorry again if this bothers you! And if anything’s wrong that’s simply a mistake on my part.
Interesting points, but I feel like you and I are interpreting the world differently- also, I’m not calling for a replacement breed for tundra, I love tundra, I literally have more tundra in my clan than any other breed. I’m calling for a secondary breed because, canonically, the Icewarden is heavily displeased with his creation. And while you’ve made fine points on how Tundra are a great species, I don’t think you’ve supported the point that they’re perfect for the Icewarden well- Actually, the evidence you’ve provided suggest that they’d actually be more accepted as the Plaguebringer’s breed, or the Shadowbinder’s.
For example, in point one you extol their virtues as of being a hardy breed, their ability to survive virtually anywhere, off of virtually any plant matter. Which is fine and wonderful, but the Icewarden is not about survival. Survival is the bag of the Plaguebringer. The Plaguebringer I’m sure would be proud of a fine and hardy creation that so eloquently displays those virtues she holds superior. The Icewarden values analysis, rigidity, and record-keeping.
In a similar vein, their burrowing has little to do with Ice values. You could argue their navigational skills are a type of memory, but really, that would just make them better Wind dragons. For the labyrinthine nature of their burrows, that would likely just make them better Shadow dragons, due to the confusing nature of their lair.
Which brings me to your third point, which I think is your weakest argument here. You say the Icewarden covets the unrecordable, friendships, love, emotions, to which I honestly have to say... source? The Icewarden is a rigid, stoic guy, and I’ve never read anything to suggest that he values emotional bonds- quite the opposite in fact: They prefer to be as rigid and cold as winter's chill. Of all the dragons, ice dragons are the most unemotional, carefully preserving the world around them to be later analyzed and catalogued. The Southern Icefields are not hospitable, nor are they meant to be. Their people are not meant to be warm and kind, their people are not meant to value emotional bonds between one another. They have all the logic and analysis of the Shifting Expanse, but without the manic, scientific enthusiasm of the Lightning Flight.
The tundra are a failed species, but only when you measure by their creator’s yardstick. That’s the beauty of them. The gods create their breeds to embody their most cherished values- The Plaguebringer created Mirrors, half-feral, vicious survivors, who embody the spirit of Survive, No Matter What. The Windsinger created Spirals to be excitable travelers, who embody the pure excitable joy of discovery. But the tundra embody essentially no values of the Icewarden- they fail at every turn. They aren’t cold and analytical- they’re friendly and simple. They aren’t great archivists, because their functional, factual memory is abysmal. They have long olfactory memories, but compared to the clear, analytical memory that the Icewarden values, it’s an inferior type. Tundra are failures as Ice dragons, they make better dragons of almost any other flight but the one they originated from.
And again: I don’t want a replacement! I never said that! I said I’m thirsty for a second breed, I want that companion breed for Tundra, because I see the rivalry between Pearlcatchers and Imperials, and I look at the Tundra, and I see so much potential for either a one-sided, silly rivalry and disdain, or the most glorious blood feud imaginable. I love tundra. I have more tundra in my lair than any other species. That’s why I want another Ice breed. It’ll open up so many avenues of FUN for me with my Tundra.
Oh gosh, I don't know if you saw what I added to your reblog but that imhighleyoffended blog is FULL of screamers. I accidentally clicked a link and I had to restart my damn computer because I was so upset, I didn't want to click back in to have to listen/see it. It contains loud audio and a startling image. I'm sorry to bother you but it's been minutes and I'm still shaking.
Oh, jesus. I hope you don’t mind me posting this public, I’m not usually bugged by screamers, but I know a lot of folks who are. Apparently they’ve baleeted and fled though, their notes in my feed have vanished and their blog deactivated. Wouldn’t be surprised if they popped back soon tho.
Judging by that, the username, and their responses, I’ll pin my bets on immature, but human. I’m so sorry bud, I hope whatever helps you calm down is nearby.
Wait has ML gotten english subtitles for the french dub for the newest episodes? I've been kinda confused about that.
i know @miraculousubs had subtitles for yesterday’s episode (the pixelator thing) and i’m pretty sure they’re doing origins part 1 too :D
tHE SPAM BOTS! THEY'RE COMING THROUGH THE IM SYSTEM NOW!
i never got even one?
Good luck! You can do it!
