So, as many of you know... I'm currently reading "Surrender, New York" by Caleb Carr. I have a few theories on a detail that interests me. →
The main character/narrator, Trajan, has written books based on Dr. Laszlo Kreizler's theory of context. He even got his hands on a lost journal of Dr. Kreizler's, and I can't help but think of how he got the journal.
• It mentions in the book that one of his colleagues found the journal and gave it to him. But the only person we really see him work with it his fellow criminal science expert: Dr. Michael Li. Although, he could have worked with someone else when the pair of them were working in New York City.
• Then that presents the question of who else would Trajan trust and work with in New York City? Especially since every police officer and investigation team hated him as well as Dr. Li. It's possible that a protogy of some sort of Dr. Kreizler's who also worked at the Kreizler Institute could have found the journal and gave it to Trajan. Although, I think that The Kreizler Institute probably shut down not long after Dr. Kreizler's death. Unless it stayed open and Trajan just simply didn't mention it.
• But one of Cyrus's grandchildren or great grandchildren could have found the journal and given it to Trajan. Assuming that Dr. Kreizler left his house to Cyrus and his family after he passed away. Because Kreizler kept a lot of his stuff at his house as well as his office at the institute. Plus, Trajan does seem like the type of person to have had asked permission to write about Dr. Kreizler; the closest thing Kreizler had to a remaining family was Cyrus's grandchildren.
• It can be argued that maybe John Moore or Sara Howard had had grandchildren who could have helped Trajan, but they weren't as close to Kreizler's work as Cyrus had been. The same thing goes for Stevie; he moves out of Dr. Kreizler's home and became a tabacoonist and judging by the end of The Angel of Darkness, he didn't have any children.
• So, in conclusion it could only have been Cyrus Montrose's grandchildren/great grandchildren who gave Trajan the 'lost journal' or a former colleague of Dr. Kreizler's.
