Stiles is out before Lydia because Claudia realizes when stiles is really young(first grade)
stiles getting bullied for two years for being trans
Scott’s the only one who doesn’t care since Melissa had explained trans to him
Lydia coming out in third grade from research of her own
her dad blames stiles and his parents, saying its a phase, but her mom is accepting and willing to learn
the bullying stops being so harsh once Lydia’s out and that’s when he notices her
and claims his love for her because ‘Scott have you seen her hair?! shes like a Greek goddess and I’m going to marry her. its destiny.’
fast forward several years where lydia goes on hormone blockers and her parents are getting a divorce
the sheriff gets stiles a binder for his thirteenth birthday and stiles hugs him and crys because he knows how hard its been on his father
lydia starts dating and has a couple of panic attacks while thinking about sex before picking herself up and owning her body and sexuality
fast forward freshmen year in chemistry class on the first day where Mr. Harris keeps calling stiles by his birth name even though he got an email and a meeting with stiles’s father explaining his identity
and stiles feels like hes going to cry or have a panic attack or both which was so not how he wanted his first day of high school to go
-and then lydia stands up in the middle of the class
and talks harris so far down he has to sit to catch his bearings
and lydia grabs her stuff and stiles by his elbow and drags him out of class
all the while saying they were going to speak with the principle about his behavior
and his job
and stiles is in so much awe and still kinda recovering that when she asks him if hes alright that he just kind of nods
and she silently fuming because how fucking dare he call a trans person by their birth name even when corrected
she was going to destroy that man
and she does
destroy harris that is
she steamrolls over the principal ranting about this and that proding at harris bad teaching etiquette while pointing out all his failures and stiles just stands there awkwardly while watching her because its like art to see her like this
the principal is already working out the papers by the time she gets to lawyers and hate crimes
and once their out of the principals office and stiles gets his bearings
he starts to thank her and say she really didnt need to do that but fuck that was amazing
and lydia brushes it all off because she wouldve done it for anybody and she doesnt even see what a big deal it is
and then stiles says that no ones ever stuck up for him like that
and as supportive as his father and scott are theyve never been as angry as lydia was over his birth name
and lydia who was walking away freezes and spins on her heel to look at him
and she finally sees him as more then an obnoxious boy who wont stop trying to get into her pants
that hes been just as alone through all this just as much as she has
that no matter the support they have there will always be someone trying to bring people like them down
that no matter how much their friends and family try to understand, there will always be this part of them that they dont
and then stiles and lydia start a tentative friendship
and stiles starts to find out things about her like how insecure and how shes not perfect and not something to put on a pedestal but a person
but he still holds on to his crush cause hes held onto it for so long
and one night when theyre talking he confesses to her
and she shakes her head because’ you dont love me.’
and hes slightly mad that she said that
but she just continues to shakes her head,’ you made yourself think you loved me becuase you knew i would understand. you knew i would understand and youre afraid no one else will be able to.’
and stiles gets this look on his face like oh shit
because she right hes terrified
and he starts crying
and she holds him
and suddenly theyre closer then they ever been before yet not in the way stiles expected but he find that he likes this better
