Opinion: Trans-Denominational
I'm just about to finish my first semester at seminary. The school where I go describes itself as a trans-denominational evangelical seminary."This means that instead of ignoring our differences, we embrace them and draw on them." I've been here for three months and I've decided that this is not really a good definition. Trans-denominational really just means that we crack jokes about the differences between denominations. If I have to hear one more joke that centres around the difference between Pentecostals and Baptists, I'll probably just leave the room. These jokes are sort of funny because they allow us to laugh at our differences instead of screaming at each other over doctrinal issues in some kind of debate, but the more I hear them, the more uncomfortable I become with them.
