With the paperback release of my book, Redefining Realness, I am leading my second annual #TransBookDrive, to ensure that our stories are more accessible to our community.
This year, I am partnering with biyuti publishing, Black Girl Dangerous and LGBT Books to Prisoners, to fulfill 200 requests from trans folks across the United States, free of charge. This year’s drive will center one of the most marginalized and forgotten populations: trans prisoners.
Many are unaware that trans people face higher rates of incarceration and greater violence in the corrections system (in addition to healthcare and gender identity needs being completely ignored). Though books won’t necessarily change this, we can ensure that those who are most affected receive stories that truly reflect them.
With the help of my partners (including YOU!), I am raising $5,000 to purchase six titles (listed below) that will be sent directly to our organization partner LGBT Books For Prisoners. They will prepare, pack and ship care packages (which will include books and handwritten letters from each author) to 200 incarcerated trans people currently on their book request list.
I just donated!
