transcrutch / crutches tips ?
Here you go! 🩼♿✨
- decide what you're using crutches for, whether there's pain or immobility in one or both legs, hips, back, etc. this will affect how you walk and what kinds of crutches you will use!
- if you're only using one crutch, most people use it on the side that has pain/immobility to take the weight off that leg and maintain balance. using a pair of crutches makes balancing easier and can help with pain on both sides as well as the lower back, but restricts what you can do with your hands and may make shoulder/wrist pain worse.
- buy some! cheap(ish) crutches can be bought from amazon or pharmacies without a prescription and can be adjusted to fit your needs.
- practice walking around in a private space before you go out in public, watch videos of people walking with crutches and try to copy them! if anything hurts, try to adjust the height of your crutches or their handles, or add more padding. try to walk on different kinds of ground too, concrete vs carpet vs grass vs stairs are very different and have different challenges!
- decorate your crutches with stickers or charms! you can also attach a small bag to carry items like your phone and wallet, or a cute wrist strap which could be either made for crutches or a phone wrist strap which will have more options but may be less sturdy.
I hope this was helpful!
