On February 24th 2017, I was a panelist at VERGE NYC, a conference hosted by the Transdisciplinary Design MFA program at Parsons. I was invited to talk about the relationship between design, transdisciplinarity, and politics, with fellow alumni from the program now working at IDEO and Parsons itself.

Out of the 3 invited panelists, I decided to reflect on the skills and tools that design has (or lacks) when dealing with activism and social change causes. These musings come as a direct result of my work with the Office of Social Change Initiatives at ThoughtWorks, during the past 8 months.

For one of our classes, Design Led Research, our team is exploring the intersection of community and belonging among millennials. If you were born between 1981-1997, and if you have a few minutes to help us out between now and end-of-day Monday, we'd greatly appreciate your participation!

For the second year in a row, Parsons students are finalists in Fast Company's Innovation by Design Awards. Recent MFA Transdisciplinary Design graduates, Howard Chambers and Bland Hoke created Hello Compost, which seeks to introduce food waste collection to low-income families by giving them a percentage of the revenue made from collecting their food waste, which will earn them credits for purchasing locally grown produce.
