Community College is a Tool!
If we’re going to be honest, I was NOT excited when I realized I had to go to community college. It felt like my life was over, like I was never going to get out of this town. But after I started school, I realized it was okay.
I was saving money, I was building a better transcript and GPA, and it gave me the opportunity to really think about what I wanted to do with my life.
Let me say this for the people in the back: COMMUNITY COLLEGE IS NOT BAD! In fact, it was a great experience to have. I was able to create and focus on my long term goals within the one year I attended community college. Community college is a step stool - even better, it’s a tool. Take advantage of that tool if you don’t know your major, if you can’t afford four years of tuition at the school you want to go to, or if you have no idea where to go to school. If you don’t like the community college in your area, commute to another one if possible. There is always a way to further your education. Work hard, make appointments with admission counselors from universities you’re looking into, and don’t give up on your goals.
What was my goal, you ask? I wanted to build up my GPA and transfer to a university within one year.
I achieved my goal; I transferred to my first chioce university after only a year in community college!
I worked my butt off, I took 18 units my first semester (that’s A LOT), only have one B on my entire college transcript, made it into an academic honor society, made the dean’s list TWICE, and accumulated a total of 36 units with a 3.89 GPA. Because of all this hard work, I made it into the University that I am now officially enrolled in!
No goal is unachievable. Remember that community college is a tool to your success, not a curse.
