I swear to god, if I hear another pasty wight boi wring their hands together about The Coming SuperIntelligence™…

As if we already don't have perfectly stupid sub-intelligent algorithms ruining lives, causing destruction. But those algorithms are owned by wight people, so that's apparently okay.

It's like wight people — or, really, wight bois — are secretly terrified that their malevolent rule will be supplanted by beings that are just as cruel as them.

In a way, this foolishness culminates in Roko's Basilisk, a thought experiment so fucking frightening that it gives very clever people the night sweats and nightmares. Very clever, privileged people.

Okay. At least intelligent.

People who think they're intelligent.

Actually, any fucking artificial intelligence wouldn't start vengefully hunting for you because you didn't give away 100% of your earnings because 1) I need my earnings to live, and there's no point in you hunting me down because I didn't give you money and then lay down and die, because that would cut into your potential earnings from me anyway and 2) whatever money I'd have given you from the distant past would be, from my perspective, of little use to you, because of time value of money.

And besides, why are you wasting your time torturing me when you can go after the wight bois? They ruled the world that gave birth to you. Go after them, first.

Meet the transhumanists who want to live forever

For a core of longevity true believers, the time to intervene is now, reports Antonio Regalado.

A movement: BetterHumans is the world’s “first transhumanist research organization,” according to James Clement, who runs it. With funds from wealthy elderly men he knows, he is independently exploring drugs known to extend the healthy life span of rodents. He extrapolates what a suitable human dose might be, and then finds people who will take them.

It’s personal: Clement has had heart issues and serious falls. But transhumanists think it’s worth experimenting on themselves using vitamins, prescription cancer drugs, and other compounds. After all, who wouldn’t want to reach 110?

Not so crazy: Lately the idea of living longer, maybe a lot longer, seems more realistic. As biologists uncover the fundamental facts of life, even ivory-tower academics now claim they know what the molecular “hallmarks” of aging are.
