I want to spray-paint this quote onto the front of the Bavarian Ministry for Education, omg
In college we still wrote our translations with pen and paper using absolutely zero resources and tools except for print-dictionaries some of which we had to order old editions of off ebay etc BECAUSE THEY WERE SO OUTDATED THEY WEREN'T EVEN PRINTED ANYMORE. That was two years ago and current students still have to do the. same. shit.
At work I work with a state-of-the-art CAT-tool and a neural network plugin. There's no way my German undergrad degree prepared me for any of that. The only reason why I have some sort of clue about how the translation and interpreting sector works is because I did an MA abroad in a country that has it's shit together when it comes to translator and interpreter training.
