TRANSLUCENT/SHINY CLOTHING
Recently I have noticed that a lot of trendier shops, like ASOS and NastyGal have new clothing that is translucent. One item that has become strikingly poplar across a range of brands is translucent rain coats. Personally, I love this idea because it allows your outfit to be on display while keeping it dry and maintaining a fresh trendy look altogether. Translucent backpacks have also become a staple in many stores. I know you are probably thinking: Why would you want a backpack that is clear? Doesn’t that defeat the purpose of a backpack because everyone can just see through?? But no. Clear backpacks look extremely cool and their glossy finishes really add to your look, plus the fact that they match with absolutely everything. That fact alone made me buy one last month. Also last week I went to the Governors Ball music festival and I surprisingly saw at least 50 variations of translucent backpacks.
Some other types of clothing I have seen made translucent so far are pants. I do not think I could ever bring myself to wear them simply because of how uncomfortable they would probably feel when they rub together as you walk, however I think they would be a real look and I salute anyone who successfully pulls them off.
I know that glossy opaque clothing technically isn’t translucent clothing, but I feel like it fits with the trend all the same. Recently, the brand Moncler has greatly improved their consumer audience with help of many celebrities. Moncler is known for their overpriced shiny winter coats, hooded with real fur. Although this trend of wearing Moncler jackets is popping right now, I don’t really see it sticking in the future. However, I do believe that we will continue to see more translucent items hitting the runway in the future.
