i don’t think harry forgot about the mirror? i think there must have been several times that he pulled the mirror out with the full intention of talking to sirius, but he didn’t know what to say to him. he was angry and frustrated and felt like he was alone, but so did sirius. so he put it out of his mind

harry spending loads of time with luna and neville during fifth year because they’re going to understand the most

harry learning a lot about herbology during this time and this has a lot to do with him being an auror later

harry spending loads of time in mcgonagall’s office. not in trouble, not to talk about anything, just to sit in there to work and avoid everyone else. mcgonagall doesn’t mind, partially because he’s not doing anything to piss off the ministry, and partially because she remembers sirius doing the same thing in his fifth year
